My flash have two sets of varta pro 2700mAh. The flash goes through one set of them in a month but charge them when I get the change, so they sit in my bag charged for a month before they see any use and then even they last a month in the flash as well. Will test them to find out how many flashes I get out of themiceblinker wrote:

Only if they are of low capacity or are in rubbish condition. They should last quite a few weeks otherwise. A regular camera user will be charging more often than every two weeks anyway.NiMh's can go flat through self discharge in as little as two weeks.
My stephdad use GP batteries in his P&S camera but they will only last a week before they're depleted.
Brand does matter and also a good charger is important.
[quote:3496ace15f="Mannesty]Sanyo Eneloop batteries have a very very low self discharge rate and are claimed to maintain 80% of their charge after a year of non-use.
They are however of a lower capacity at 2000maH than the more commonly available 2700maH NiMh batteries. In practice this makes very little difference.[/quote]The diffrence is 35%, I don't call that minor since it means you can take 35% more photos if they don't decharge that is.
It's nice they don't lose 80% in a year but they lose the most in the first week/days. They tested 2 week charged Varta pro 2700 and they lost 500mAh. That's after two weeks and they still have more energie then freshly charged enloops do and the more they deplete the slower the depleting goes, they might probable still be more powerfull then enloops after 3 weeks.
It really depends on your shooting then which battery is better.
If go through your batteries in 3 weeks, good NiMH batteries might be the better option if not Enloops are probable the better ones.

I agree, I have found that the higher capacity Uniross lose their charge much faster than say the 2000mAh. My experience is very different from yours. I have both Uniross 2350's and Uniross 2500 & 2700's, some are less than a year old and I can't rely on any of them to hold a charge more than about 3 weeks.
BTW: I wonder if they would really supply 2 amps for 1 hour without exploding

as mentioned a while back, but dead pc's and crap interweb connections have prevented me from posting these until tonight..... just a randomish selection of pics, all taken with the pentax twin lens kit lenses 18-55 and 50-200 (with the exception of the moon pic which was with a 500mm reflector coupled with a 1.7x teleconverter, and shot without tripod so not too fussed its a bit fuzzy)...... - was more of a snap than a pic......
Just really a selection of landscape, portraits and close up (ish) - feel free to comment as am interested in learning to improve --- would apprecaite comments about how to improve "framing the shot" and yes, theres a ton of stuff to do in photoshop, but juyst wanted to put up some images, as taken.......

Greytop -
All taken on full auto - not good enough yet to play with Av, Tv, Sv, Manual, 110 other settings...... (with the exception of the moon one which had a manual lens - think that one was 1/125 or may have been 1/250, f8, iso 100 (or 200) - i will check) - only photoshopping done on any of the pics is rezising to 800 pixels on longest side....., and the snails been cropped a bit but nothing more.
Shedloads to do to improve things in photoshop, but given all the questions about the K-m, thought I would bung up some "as taken" images....

Slight detour from the current discussion but does anyone know if there's a trick to make the K-m's LCD monitor brighter other the conventional way from the menu?
Andrew.

I cannot read the info under the view through the viewfinder because it is too faintly lit, can this be brightened? The monitor is OK for me.

I didn't even know there was info in the viewfinder
Being a spectacle wearer my eye is too far back to see it!
Haven't tried it but does changing to monitor brightness affect the viewfinder info?

Hi Greytop,
First thing I have always been interested in photography from way back when I had a Practika outfit and them someone gave me a Pentax P30t and hence I've always used Pentax cameras due to at the time the availability of lenses including third party.
A couple of months ago a bought myself my very first digital SLR the K-m and I've got large hands and find it comfortable and it will also suite someone with smaller hands. I find the 18-55mm that came with the camera performs really well, the bayonet fitting on mine is metal, I have two 18-55mm the DA and DA L, the second one being lighter.
When I fitted my 50mm f1.7 lens on this camera it works very well and the pictures I got were brilliant, but bear in mind although this camera is compatible with previous Pentax lenses be careful when fitting any third party as not all of them fit even though they have a Pentax bayonet fitting, you could damage the lens or worse the camera.
Hope this helps...
Carly

eneloop....and is it really different...and does it last much longer?
Watched the tread...thanks.
Do you all agree on this little battery?
JudithAnn
They are however of a lower capacity at 2000maH than the more commonly available 2700maH NiMh batteries. In practice this makes very little difference.
700 frames = 700 pictures. The term frame is a legacy from film days that some folk just can't let go of.
