Where did you read the K-7 is placed above the K-5?
I got this in my mail box today saying that the K-5 replace the K-7.

Quote:
The compact new K-5 digital SLR is loaded with features for the passionate photographer. With a 7 FPS frame rate and enhanced focus performance, it's even faster than its predecessor the PENTAX K-7. Thanks to a new 16.28 megapixel sensor, the K-5 has a wide sensitivity range from ISO 80 to 12800. All in one of the smallest weather-sealed digital SLRs in its class.

OK, maybe I confused the pre-announcement buzz with the announcement itself. I think the K-7 will be available at a knock-down price soon though.
I think the fate of the K-5 may rest largely on magazine reviews. The competition is tough, but (despite the fact we know that megapixels aren't everything) they do sell cameras. Canon and Nikon have very strong offerings (for a lower initial outlay) but I think the main competition may the the Olympus E5, simply because it's the other 'outsider' brand.
But for the first time since I switched, I'm feeling a little regretful!

Don't forget the new Sony cameras.I think the main competition may the the Olympus E5, simply because it's the other 'outsider' brand.
I have been reading about the E5 on other forums and it seems a lot of Olympus owners are very disappointed with it and have been waiting to see the K-5 specifications?

It depends on whether this is one of the areas where they intend to continue it. Besides they won't let the price on it drop too much or no-one will buy the K-r.

But I must admit I never think of Sony as serious competitors. Whereas if they were made and owned by Sony but still called Minolta I would. I must be more of a snob than I realised!

That's a difficult one .[Besides they won't let the price on it drop too much or no-one will buy the K-r.
The K-7 was an easy choice for me over the K-x (even if I hadn't got it so cheap) but the K-7 over the K-r is another matter.
Better AF, better Iso, faster fps to name but a few upgrades.

True Mike, but the K-r is supposed to be the starter model, unless they are also hanging on to the K-x. Which I think would be a good idea.
If the K-r as starter model is dearer than the former flagship model which one will most newbies choose? They tend to buy on price not on features so much.
Does the K-5 tempt you? I know you are waiting to see the speed of the AF first, but does it tempt you - just a little bit, or has the new Nikon won you over? No don't answer that - it will lead to another riot here.

I'm rather enjoying the K-7 atm and with the dark nights starting I don't need fast AF for at least 6 months.

Hi Folks,
a bugbear with previous Pentax DSLR's has been the poor autofocusing speeds.
The K5 shares a new AF system with the 645D.
Is the new AF system performing well in the 654D?
Am I right in that the speed also depends on the non too quick lens mechanism?
Will this not then necessitate a higher spec. range of autofocus lenses to get the best out of the camera?
Neil

Officially the K-7 is the flagship model, but in my mind lags behind the K-5,K-x and K-r in terms of ISO sensitivity and seemingly worse focussing than the K-5.
If I were a cynic I might think that Pentax have to say the K-7 is the flagship model simply so they can continue selling them?
Unless a major software update is due?
