You can set the camera to manual focus using the three position control on the left side of the lens mount. AF-S is conventional autofocus, AF-C is continuous (for tracking) and MF is manual. You can also go into the menu settings and disable the autofocus on the shutter button, and instead have it operated on the AF button on the back of the camera.
Hope that helps!

Most/early all lenses have a manual/auto focus switch built in. Just switch this to OFF.

Hi,
are you mis-understanding quick focus on what I assume is the DA not DAL lens? I assume it works the same way as my KR.
To refocus finely from autofocus you need to have the first position on the shutter button depressed before you turn the focus ring otherwise it will refocus back to what AF thinks is right. Spot focussing is also advisable in such stuations.
Otherwise as suggested, switch to manual.

Hi & welcome Nels, if you wish to retain the ability to autofocus, and later press the shutter button independently, then Mat's advice above is the key piece for you.
The autofocus does not have to be actuated by the shutter button. You can assign autofocus to a separate button, dedicated for AF. That way you can autofocus to your hearts content, and later press the shutter button at your leisure without fear of interference.

Out of desperation, I took a couple Green Mode frames, before the insect flew away. In that mode the camera took the picture I had focused. How can I turn auto focus off in other modes?
I'll be the first to admit that this camera is a lot smarter than I am. But, how can I get it to let me take the picture I want, in other than the Green mode?
