It stayed in the same place. It seems related to the temperature of the sensor. I tested with a short video and it was fine. With a longer video is showed this problem. It does go away after a short while, presumably after the sensor has cooled down a little. I didn't try a simple off/on again. Part of the problem was that it wasn't immediately apparent on the LCD only after downloading and viewing the images. I can't do any further tests as it's now in the post
It can very well be the temperature like you said, hopefully they can solve it.

I've read elsewhere that this is showing up on a number of K-7's. Amazon US are said to have returned all their stock to Pentax because of the number of complaints they were having to deal with. Suggestion is that the problem was confined to one early batch of cameras.

Somehow thought to be associated with sensor heating/use of video recording.

George, I remember that happening. My main doubt with that is that the problem is reproducible only under certain strict conditions rather than a general intermittent or continuous problem under varying circumstances. Prior to playing with video I have shot several hundred images, none of which show this.
Yes, I'm not suggesting it's the same problem, just that it pays to consider all possibilities.

When I get the replacement and test I will be sure to use a different PC as well to rule out as many things as I can. I did check with two different makes of SDHC card to that end.

I did read some where about the reason for the delay in the K7 release was to do with temperature problems with the sensor, so it may not be cured yet.

There is some stuff about this on DPreview - the line shows up after doing some video, so seems to be linked to a temperature problem
Andy

EDIT: probably following use of liveview. The DPR forum links across to a discussion on pentaxforums

Thank you for the information.

Jonathan, sorry to hear your K-7 has developed this problem. I think ours must of been from the same batch that SRS had.
So far (touch wood) mine doesn't exhibit the same issue. Having seen your post I gave mine several 5 minute cycles of live view and video and it seems OK.
Anyway I hope your replacement unit arrives quickly and operates as it should.

It's good to know that yours is OK as they would have been from the same batch. It seems that those that have had theirs replaced haven't had a recurrence of the issue.

Faulty reasoning. My PC worked fine for three years, then developed the fault overnight.

I sure you know that all you need to do is zoom the image in/out or reduce the window slightly to move the image across the monitor to determine which has the fault.
Very unlikely to be your PC Jonathan.

In my case, the lines were imposed on the images when they were saved. So they became part of the image.

However, as stated earlier, I only mentioned this as a possibility. If more than one person has this problem (and it seems they do) then it is clearly down to the camera.

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing this problem, There seem`s to be a rash of similar cases with DSLR`s from all the manufacturers though usually the line is RED in colour rather than the green one that you have.
Canon issued an upgrade for one of it`s top of the range Camera`s soon after launch (As well as for the black dot problem) But Sony, Olympus and Nikon have not been immune.
I hope that you get it sorted soon.

Thanks Pete. I've heard that Pentax is very much aware of the issue (it's been mentioned by Pentax Germany), but it remains to be seen what they do about it. Their recommendation is apparently to let it cool down afterwards , which is hardly reassuring for what is essentially a design flaw if accepted.
