My first batch of K-3 shots

Not claiming these are particularly great shots but if anybody is interested in how the K-3 is in every day use then I've put my shots so far in to a set on Flickr:

Very impressed with metering and general handling in a variety of situations including handheld night shots.

Hoping to try my first long exposures tonight and will pop those in to the same set once processed.

Thanks for sharing these Ross, looking like the K5 on Steroids No doubt about the colouration, very nice indeed.
Enjoy life

Thanks guys. I can't wait for better light and weather to really give it a good workout!

Very nice. There's an intangible something about these that reminds me of when people were posting K20D shots and comparing them with K10D pictures.

It should be hard to tell the difference at web display sizes, but somehow there was an indefinable extra something with those too.

I know what you mean...there's a kind of "look" to the images.

Just posted an abstract "smarties" shot earlier, and now uploaded first of tonight's long exposures.

Certainly a nice selection of shots.

However in terms of comparing cameras, there's nothing here that couldn't be equally shot on a K-5.

The K-3 isn't going to usurp in image quality. Indeed so far, higher ISO performance is worse on the K-3 than the K-5.

Where the K-3 should score better is on dynamic subjects due to the much improved AF. I look forward to some sports shoots taken with the K-3

If you're going to give it a "good workout" then surely lower light, adverse weather conditions and dynamic movement are the right conditions to test it properly. Even today's mobile phones can take great pictures in great light and optimal conditions in static scenes.

IMO the progression of DSLRs is not in the easy conditions of good light and fine weather with static subjects, but rather in low light, bad weather and fast moving subjects.

I already have a camera that is perfect for "better light and weather" conditions, it's called the K-5.

I agree with Smeggy. Also what hasn't had much airing is getting the full value out of your purchase. I expect to get three to five years use out of a PC/Printer/Screen and would think it reasonable to expect the same from my DSLR camera body. Hats off to those earning a living from their gear (although most pro friends on the other formats never care much it seems)but I'd like my excellent K5 to have a lot of life in it yet.

I'm also delighted with my K5 and expect it to continue to turn out better results as I continue to learn its secrets and subtleties such as AF speed or quality priority options,AF tracking to AE links,Custom setups for night skies etc, tweaks for low ISO, long exposure and shadow detail, better understanding of histograms etc. I remain clueless about exploiting the 14 bit RAW processing. Much to learn before I cough up for the new stuff!

My experience is that it does very well in poor light and adverse conditions too
