K-7 now £799!!
A K-7 Super definately appeals, what I would like to see in it:-
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- The new sensor from the K-x or better
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- 1080P video @ 24FPS & 30FPS, with ISO control as well as aperture and decent autofocus!
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- Higher ISO performance (which would come with the newer sensor anyway)
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- Small increase in FPS, say 6-7, including flash please! (current K-7 drops from 5FPS to 2-3FPS when flash used)
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- Same body design as it's great, so same grip, but drop the grip price a bit please!
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- GPS built in for geotagging.
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
and a 2 week testing period so I can make you all jealous again!
PS. Excuse the beers, but I would like the autofocus to be a bit faster!
I think he and others witnessed one of the preproduction K-7s at SRS performing very impressively with some production SDM lenses.
Much faster than the current K-7 firmware would appear to allow. So the potential appears to be there.
Or is it just down to the lens ?? and firmware ??

I'M HAPPY WITH THE SPEED OF MY K20D BUT I DONT SHOOT FOR SPEED

PS, Sober now!
Certainly the Photo Rumors.com site carried stories of the imminent arrival of what with hindsight appeared to closely resemble a Samsung branded K7 until very late in the day, that then inexplicably failed to materialise.
I hate to put a damper on such imaginative rumours but the most likely cause was a faulty battery putting out too many volts - you got faster AF but it would have fried the camera before too long...

I would point to the episode where the apparently useable movie mode autofocus in pre-production models was subsequently canned. The only explanation proffered from a nameless executive was that the feature wasn't supposed to be available; undoubtedly a strong contender for the lamest corporate excuse of the decade, and in my view a strong indication of strange firmware goings on.

I don't believe the explanation I put forward is anywhere near as farfetched as you imply, Hefty.

Pentax have a track record of holding back firmware features it's true (wireless flash on the K10D springs to mind) but in this case I'm more inclined to believe in a cock-up than a conspiracy to be honest.
Nope, just a hunch based on the fact these batteries were "new" for the K7 (unlike the K10/20 cells which were tried and tested on Minoltas previously) and if experience of electronics in general has taught me anything then it's that "new" very often equals "unpredictable".
Nikon and Canon have had their issues over the years. They have just been doing it longer.
I believe that the lenses should be the selling point for Pentax, supported by an affordable DSLR that does what the mark does best, make people proud to own it and produce the results.
