My thoughts exactly John..................because working ergonomics are very important. All the cameras (and accessories such as batteries) need to be the same. The K10D and K20D fit together seamlessly...............
I want to be able to pick up any of my DSLR's and not have to think how each one works

Could you not get that lens, and a, oh I don't know, let's say EOS to PK, mount converter? Granted you'd lose infinity focus, but as far as I know, that lens doesn't focus to infinity anyway, and you'd instead get even higher magnification. Hyram wrote:

I'm not into all the bell's and whistles!...the only way I would change my K20 would be if Pentax produced a camera with better image quality.....as yet they haven't,so I'll stick with what I have.....

Not at all. K-x has got approx. 1,5 stops ISO advantage over K-7. That is you can use ISO3200 instead of ISO1000 e. g. at indoor shots. This means you CAN take a picture about your perpetual motion children with K-x and you CAN NOT take that picture with K-7. To put it differently, K-x gives you 1,5 stop light advantage to all your lenses. Your 16-45/4 with K-x will be practically a faster lens than your 16-50/2,8 with K-7. Please don’t tell me it does not matter… there is a huge price difference between similar lenses with just only one stop speed difference… This is what K-x gives you… or saves you and K-7 misses. Of course, i can understand that for those who owns K-7 is a bit disappointing to see a half priced Pentax camera with far better IQ at low light. Certainly, featurewise K-7 is a different class, but at the end of the day IQ is what really matters. IMHO.

Yes, the K-x appears to have better IQ in certain circumstances (low light), but I rarely need that, and would much prefer the K-7 due to it being in 'a different class'.Certainly, featurewise K-7 is a different class, but at the end of the day IQ is what really matters. IMHO.
Weather sealing, extra controls, better viewfinder etc, that's what matters to me, and why I've still got a K10D. I wouldn't swap it for a K-x. I most definitely would swap it for a K-7! But that's just me.

I do wonder if we wont be seeing a K-7 Super very soon ... basically the same camera but with the Sony A550 sensor (which I believe is the same as the K-x but with a few more MP).
No matter how fast technology moves I really can't imagine Pentax will allow their cheaper body to have better picture performance for any length of time.

That K7 super would be nice, especially if it did full HD (1920x1080) video at 25fps, and you could select screw drive or SDM focus for SDM lenses.

It's only in high iso when the K-X is better at iso100 the K7 wins, certainly since that is a special extended mode for the K-X.
At iso200... I really don't know, I thought the K7 has less artefacts there up until iso400 but ain't 100% sure...
I hardly shoot over ISO400 most of the time I'm at iso100 or iso200 so I'll so the sensor of the K-7 is better for me.
I only have some shots over iso800...

The movie modes of Pentax now are now 30fps, I hope they can keep that speed.

No doubt the 30fps is related to the frame rate in countries that use 60Hz mains supply - the USA and possibly Japan. So it's not really a feature that needs maintaining as such. 25fps is the UK video frame rate, because we have a mains AC frequency of 50Hz.
Best regards, John

A K-7 Super definately appeals, what I would like to see in it:-
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- The new sensor from the K-x or better
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- 1080P video @ 24FPS & 30FPS, with ISO control as well as aperture and decent autofocus!
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- Higher ISO performance (which would come with the newer sensor anyway)
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- Small increase in FPS, say 6-7, including flash please! (current K-7 drops from 5FPS to 2-3FPS when flash used)
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- Same body design as it's great, so same grip, but drop the grip price a bit please!
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
- GPS built in for geotagging.
- FASTER AUTOFOCUS!
and a 2 week testing period so I can make you all jealous again!
PS. Excuse the beers, but I would like the autofocus to be a bit faster!

Yes, that would be fine! But fast autofocus needs not only the body but also an upgraded SDM.

So in your opinion (and no holding back) .. what do you think Pentax could do to the K-7 that would make a really worthwhile upgrade?

I was hoping they were going to do it just before the end of the cashback but no such luck. I have my eye on something else at the moment.
