Still won't buy a K-7 yet, even at Aussie pricing, as the total outlay for my K20D, DA*60-250 and DA 17-70 was under £1500!
Looks like I'll be stuck in a rut with that lot for a long time as I'm too much of a fringe photographer (mean b@st@rd!) to be an early adopter!
Richard it was with Kikatinalong airlines and if you make it here, your buying the beer

I'm in a self imposed wait and see type situation due to possibly having my K-7 fund tied up in a lens purchase, and had to cancel my pre-order in case it goes through. I do presume that will fall through (have to allow 28 days to find out) and when it does I will work my options out then.
Making a presumption I would guess that the Pixmania price is a grey import, but with the 2 year warranty, I'm just not sure. Looks like I'm waiting, which is a bit of a nightmare as I'm gagging for it.

Danny, In the past I have bought several P&S cameras from Pixmania along with printers, camcorders - they are good and efficient. Occasionally their stock is 'French' but they are not by any means dodgy or 'grey' importers in the bad sense. They are a big pan-european ecommerce based operation and you should have no worries there. I have even bought things and changed my mind and sent them back a week later and they have refunded me, so I can only speak well of their operation.BODYHEAT wrote:

But personally I am in a quandary right now. I am considering my options and wonder how badly I want the K7 or whether to go another route entirely since I am not invested heavily in modern Pentax digital lenses at this point, and am not sure realistically how much I would use my old lenses on a new digital body as it is a bit of a pain actually.
The metering for K lenses works perfectly on the LX and K2 with them but takes some more consideration on the K20d, so I am seriously weighing up a D300 versus a K7 even though I am not a fan of bigger camera bodies normally and never thought I'd hear myself say that, but I found a great price on that with an 18-200mm Nikkor zoom in Curry's so am sorely tempted as this one body and lens combo would do me for 99% of my needs.
I am genuinely torn as to which direction to go right now since my old kit is fine for film, and had the K7 debuted cheaper in the £800 range like a D90 for example, then it would have been a very easy decision, but at more than a grand it has given me pause for thought

If sowhere are they getting the K7 from?
Is it cheaper in France?
If you decide to change, Bodyheat, do it quickly. The D300 seems to have been dropped by Currys, along with Pentax(for some reason!) and the one you've seen is probably a local managers deal.
You could just wait a month or two and then get a K-7 and18-200 when prices drop.
Cheers, HG

Lot of rumours yesterday of the release of a D300s in a couple of months and a D400 next year.

There's nothing on the Curry's website but my local one in New Malden is their biggest Superstore and the price of the kit is $1369, which looks attractive when the body alone is about £1200+/- and lens bought separately about £500-600. I liked the lens at both ends and as you see in another thread enquired about Pentax's version of this lens which they seem to have dropped . So for this price I can solve nearly all my needs without really getting into LBA (which seems a never ending spiral downhill LOL)If you decide to change, Bodyheat, do it quickly. I'm sure someone would tell me the D300 is an 'old' model and will be replaced soon but I found it very easy and responsive and gets the job done, but my heart is with Pentax and I want to believe that I'm better off with a K7 but my head needs reconvincing at the moment
PS no it's not a manager's deal, but their actual price for this kit, which SRS have for £1759 but I don't want to derail this thread as I genuinely think the K7 is a great camera and am a huge Pentax fan-boy (horrible expression) I was just expressing how torn I am since both have their merits but when the price is substantially similar it is no longer an easy decision

I know what you mean bodyheat.
I would prefer Pentax glass but a Sigma 18-200 came my way for next to nothing!
Nice lens and on the camera at all times now.

Pixmania are part of the Dixons, Currys group.
Currys were doing the Samsung 12-24mm for £199.97 collect from store.
Try putting in a few towns to see if any are available, you may have to enter it in the basket and go to checkout first. link
Towns I've tried without success Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Chester, London, St. Helens
May be all gone now.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.
