K-5ii - Live View and Manual Focus
Like most camera manuals they're a heck of a read and I'd found an alternative pdf version of the manual which generally talks in (roughly) plain English (actually it's Canadian).... but it does skate around a few features!
Again, Thanks JAK!
Using LV with manual focus is a fantastic tool when you zoom at 100%. It beats all the digital focus tools the camera offers in my opinion.
Especially useful for those of us who use the old manual focus lenses.

I learned a new word today Geoff ! Hornswoggled ! Keep them coming.

Me too!
Finally, everyone moans that the *ist series doesn't have a 'green' button, thus making it impossible to use M and K style lenses other than wide open. But it does have an (undocumented) green button for use in 'M' mode - it just happens to be coloured black and labelled AE-L !!
The fixed screen is a limitation, but I have heard of a mirror attachment which enables viewing of rear screen for awkward angles. Unfortunately I can't remember where.

One genre that hadn't interested me much in the past was close-up (even macro) photography. Now, I know that the experts in the field all seem to recommend Live View and Manual Focus but that doesn't seem to be feasible to me - needing reading glasses. I can't see any way for the LV screen to 'zoom in' to the frame - and a big problem of the K-5 is the lack of a tiltable screen (oh how brilliant the K-1's screen is!)
I follow several photographers on YouTube, many using the MF and LV combination, even for landscapes. They (with their various other makes of camera) are able to zoom in to get really clear (manual) focusing. Trying that on a K-5 just changes aperture or shutter (dependent on Exposure Mode chosen).
Am I asking for too much from the really good value K-5? Obviously some of the cameras I see on YouTube are the top of the range, over 2000 pounds, some higher. I'm likely to upgrade one day (or year) soon - but, for now, I'd like to get the maximum from my (almost) perfect K-5.
