K-5 Sloooow Lo Speed continuous shooting

Yeah, I know you were being a bit lighthearted, just expressing my opinion anyway. In any case I was really talking about motion blur in the context of the existing conversation, i.e. the kind you would get if you slowed the shutter speed sufficiently to slow the continuous shooting frame rate. Presumably you would have to be shooting at something slower than 1/10s to 'achieve' this. In other words the kind of gross motion blur which affects whole subjects, not parts of them like the propeller of a plane, the wheels of a bike or the feet of a runner. If I objected to that I'd be trying to shoot everything at 1/8000s.

I only really mentioned it because examples of gross motion blur which others sometimes consider 'artistic' are often lost on me to be honest. This may be my failing but OTOH it could be just one of any number of conflicting but equally valid opinions.

See, here's what I'm talking about. I was browsing through a flickr group for 'deliberate motion blur':

http://www.flickr.com/groups/deliberatemotionblur/

Now to me the great majority of these pictures just seem 'blah', even those which have attracted very positive comments from other users. There are exceptions of course but to my eye most of them just don't seem to work. Blurry street photography in particular is really not my thing. If I came across something similar to some of these from one of my own shoots I would take a look at the exif to find out what went wrong then delete it.

Even the K10D could do that at 3.5FPS!
K10D = 10Mp, K-5 = 16Mp = bigger files

Larger buffer size, faster processing chips, faster data transfer rate to faster cards

Even if the if the rate at which the buffer can be cleared off to the card is the same, at 62.5% bigger image files the frame rate should be 2.19 (using a very basic calculation)!

why the drop mentioned for the LO mode
I'm going to guess that the Lo rate is the fastest possible rate that can be continuous until the card is full.

The fast rate can of course be reduced by using a slower shutter speed. You can't do 7fps with a shutter speed of 1/2 second for example.
I'm sure that's why they chose 1.6fps & it makes for a good advertising point. Whether 1.6fps is useful is another matter. Who needs to fill an 8GB card in one long "burst" & who needs to fill it at 1.6fps?

I have no idea. Having never thought of using the setting, clearly not me and clearly not you either! Just offhand, I can't think of any situation I have ever come across, but someone somewhere might use it all the time. Perhaps if so they'll tell us.

At maximum jpeg quality that's roughly 536 frames taking 5 minutes 35 seconds!

Both are ridiculous IMHO.

The whole point of 7 fps is to catch fast action so a slow shutter speed would be counter-productive.

What is the point of being able to fill the card at 1.6 fps ? As has been said sometimes you don't need 7 fps and 3-4 would be perfect. Just last weekend I found out how totally useless that 1.6 fps is and had to switch back to my default 7 fps and just delete the excess.

That's an awful lot of laborious deleting if you do it in the camera.

This would be a good one for the person at Pentax on here to answer including why the drop mentioned for the LO mode.
What person from Pentax on here?

Apart from one comment made by someone working for their advertising agency I have never seen anyone from Pentax on the forum.
Their PR company escapadepr

Nicole Littlewood. Made 4 posts so far.

PR with Pizzazz. Allegedly.

I wonder what these circumstances are? For action shots surely faster is better? What sort of action shots mean slower is better?

It would seem odd for a manufacturer to make a selling point of having a slower frame rate than the opposition and I'm not aware of one that does.

It's not a problem just now wadna, website came up straight away.

They did try to open communication, but didn't get much of a reception really. I understand they look at the forum, but I doubt it could ever be a full time presence.

Seems as if it's an Oz problem as it still times out for me John. I've tried both Chrome & Firefox. I must be too far away

You've misunderstood. Two frame rates exactly as we have now except instead of 7 fps and 1.6 fps we have 7 fps and 3-4 fps. I know you are not a birder so you have probably not come across a need for this - however as mentioned above 1.6 fps is virtually useless in any scenario I can imagine !

3fps is great for Street & more sedate situations but 7 should be great for sport - if the AF can keep up.

That link still times out for me.
