K-5 non-Pentax battery supplier

Has anyone bought a non-Pentax battery for their K-5?
Any recommendations for a good quality one?

Also they are not the fastest I got my one from here link and they are working fine, coming partially charged and are cheap enough.

I asked a similar question a couple of months ago for batteries for my k-7 (same as K-5), I picked up a couple of the £6.99 jobbies off ebay and have had no issues with them at all. I tend to use my 3x Pentax ones first and foremost but happy to use the cheapies as a back up...

Are you not worried with such an expensive camera that if the battery fails and damages the camera you have no warranty claim? There was a Samsung GX-20 (or GX-10) recently on Ebay that had a battery melt and destroy the camera so such things do happen.

That is if you buy batteries with higher capacity then the original, plus if you use a battery grip you always place the generic battery only in the grip and not in the camera itself.
AFAIK the Samsung that was for sale on feeBay was used with so called 'high capacity generic batteries' and some people think that they get more for their £££ if they buy such a battery which is not true in any case.
Buy the same Voltage and Ampere and you should be fine (but this is no guaranty if you buy the cheapest of the cheap) plus some manufacturers of generic batteries even give you 'lifetime warranty' which in some cases includes damage to the camera when it is down to the battery used. They usually are not the cheapest but are still less then half the price of the original.
Also, some batteries loose their recharging cycle very quickly and do not keep their charge when not regular 'topped up'.
Use common sense and do not buy the cheapest of the cheap, the so called 'high capacity' ones that offer more Ampere or Voltage then the original and look out for warranties and you should be fine.

I suppose it's a bit like flying. Planes do crash occasionally, but it happens so rarely it doesn't stop people flying.

There must be millions of cameras out there and how many have been destroyed by a faulty battery?

I'm not worried. when I buy a K-5 I shall buy a bunch of spare generic batteries for it

Just one extra Pentax original battery should do it. When I tested the camera it was well nigh impossible to shoot enough images to even dent the capacity of the battery. Likewise with the K-r.

I did a wedding in Oct and took 750 photos (of which about 200 included using the K20s built-in flash) and the battery lasted fine. How you could need several spare is beyond me.

It always seems wierd to me...paying hundreds of pounds for a camera,then scratching around for £6.95 batteries!

Presumably it's because the buying of the aforementioned camera has left you completely skint!

How very true, and whats the point of spending three or four times as much for a spare that will probablly sit in the camera bag and hardly see the light of day.

I agree with John regards capacity, unless your going into a situation where you wont have access to power for re-charging then one battery would probablly be adaquate for most of us.

Putting it like that buying a cheap spare seems logical.

I have two bodies and keep several spares fully charged. The reason for this is sometimes I forget to recharge them after a day's shooting, so having one spare per body isn't enough.

I'm really not comfortable with spending hundreds of pounds on batteries. Especially when the £6.95 batteries work just as well.

Simple really. I forget to charge them up some times and have been caught out. Anyway they (3rd party) aren't expensive.

I've got one in the camera and one in the grip!....But I have a routine of recharging after every day out!.....just difference of folk I suppose!:lol
