My brother-in-law is still using whatever batteries came with the camera some three months later, and he's shot hundreds of images. So replacing with similar might be a good choice.

My advice would be carry a pack of Duracell as backup then see how you get on with the rechargables. There are a number of factors affecting how long each set of batteries will last.

If your K-x is like mine - it comes with Energiser Lithiums - and I got about 1000 shots from these [ camera bought in November last year ] I'm now on my second set and I suspect that they will last for some long time yet.

p39 in the manual says
Quote:
Lithiums recommended in cold weather
NiMH these are economical. A commercially available battery charger that is compatible with the batteries is required
Alkaline batteries - easily obtainable when the batteries you are using run out but they may not support all the camera functions under certain conditions. We do not recommend using them except in emergencies or when checking the camera functionality
BTW a new camera deserves new batteries - ie a brand new never been used set .

One advice, test that your K-x really works with your rechargable batteries. Discharge batteris and charge them at least one time before using them.

I have difficulties with my K-x and NiMH batteries and now I bought new Sanyo Eneloops (2000 mAh) (not Sony as I wrote earlier), see link

My K-x seems now to be working, but I've only taken ten photos with Eneloop and I don't know how long my K-x works with Eneloops.

If it's possible take Lithium batteries as a backup.

There are new "eneloop" type batteries available from sanyo. The XX or double X (not really sure). These are the same type of "low self-discharge rate" cells as eneloops, only they have larger capacity of 2500 mAh.

Eneloops proved to be very reliable cells with my flashguns and K200, so in my opinion, these are worth trying.

In my K100D I used the "eneloop" type batteries having originally used std NiMH.

The standard NiMH rechargeables were very unreliable - I could charge them one day, put them in the camera, take a few shots and they would be flat 3 days later with little or no more use.

The eneloop/duracell precharge type batteries are similar in behaviour to the lithium batteries that came with the K7 and solved all of my battery headaches for the K100D.

However, I stll always had a pack of "Copper Tops" in the bottom of the bag just in case!
