K-5 firmware update

Does anyone know if this update does more than what the Pentax site says?

"Corrected --- When O-GPS1 is mounted on the K-5 and taking a picture of starry sky with long exposure tracing by ASTROTRACER function, a band of light green noise rarely occur on image depending on photographic condition."

If the above is the only change from 1.11 then it will make no difference to me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Pentax Forums suggest...

According to other sources, other minor stability issues (such as feezing) have also been addressed via this firmware.

Not sure what the 'other' sources are.

In my mind from a PR point of view it would have been something I would have stated explicitly on the release notes if indeed they had root caused the issue and fixed it.

According to info on PF, the following is also fixed
1)
freezing in LV under low light circumstances and using the green button for metering with M lenses
2)
overexposure when using flash

Is the update any more worth doing than the last one for those of us who couldn't care less about GPS (on a camera)? Pentax don't refer to any other fixes, which I imagine they would if they existed (?).

Glad I'm not always the one that makes that mistake.

Is it right or wrong that Pentax include minor fixes not entioned in their redme with updates? They certainly advise you keep up to date.

I'm intrigued how little feedback from the import agents we get here in the UK on anything Pentax put out. A nice little blog on their site explaining what's new and what's coming would be nice for us and I guess the retailers like SRS.

I don't think it is lack of feedback from importers, I guess they know just as much as Pentax tells them and Pentax definitely don't reveal much to the public - as we can see looking at changelogs for their firmware releases, I think it is just a poor communication from Pentax.

I personally would like to see more detailed list of changes, as many other people researching blindly every time what has changed - as seen on forums, it is just a bad way Pentax treats their (still) loyal customers IMHO.
The same applies for their "hidden" updates to firmware, that changingminor version number under the same major firmware version on Pentax webpage...

I assume I have to buy something expensive for the GPS. Does anyone have it and is it worth it?

Ah well, the new firmware upadate didn't give me the swivel screen I wanted but at least I can now track Uranus.

I think you need to be over on the pointless thread for that .
