K5 and M-lenses, metering

To use my old manual lenses with my Pentax K10D was realy not satisfying.
I have got for example the not quite expensive but very good and worthy M 50 1.7 + the M 28 2.8.
Now I am surprised, how well they work with my K5. Focussing is not better but easy but the metering is exact, histogram is very good most of the time. With my k10D it was like playing roulette. ...and the Pentax k5 looks very pretty with those lenses!

I'll second that. I wonder what Pentax have done differently with the K-5 to make that happen? Also wonder how the K-7 and K-r do in that respect.

I have a nice M 1.7 50mm which i use with my K-r. Metering by trial and error! focussing is difficult for me to get accurate below f4 even though image is sharp in viewfinder (properly adjusted dioptre). When i get it right though it looks great.

Live view focussing is easier but uses battery

I have an Kr and have used both M 28 & 50 with it. I found the M 28 better all round than the 50 by quite a way.

K-x works brilliantly with old lenses, not just the 'M' lenses, but also Takumar M42 screw fit lenses with adaptors fitted. I don't have any issues with metering as long as the eyepiece is covered. I've seen loads of posts of people complaining about the metering of these lenses, but my guess is that Pentax improved this significantly from the K-x onwards. I find I get as many (if not more) keepers with the old lenses as I do with the modern ones and the images have a different quality which works very well on certain types of shots.
