Matt - the same thing is happening in my old industry - all ticked boxes and NVQs and no experience.
But a trained chef costs money and probably wouldn`t want to microwave, deepfry, griddle and grill the pre prepared rubbish that many outlets now purvey. And certainly don`t ask for a "cocktail" at the bar or any liqueur created more than 10 years ago.
Restaurant service is a joke and housekeeping done on a stopwatch.
Glad I`m out really - but what a shame !

Still talking of monopods, I will be going to the RIAT airshow in a couple of months time. Is there any point in my trying to find a suitable tall monopod, given that I'll be using my old Pentax-F 100-300mm zoom and trying to keep shutter speeds down around the 1/125 or 1/250 area in order to avoid the "frozen rotors/props" effect on aircraft and helicopters?...
That's what I will be trying this year.Still talking of monopods, I will be going to the RIAT airshow in a couple of months time. If it fails I shall stick to fast jets.

Is there really no money for them in at least trying to avoid being a laughing stock amongst photographers? It surely wouldn't be that hard to appoint one or two people who actually know their stuff in every store and then expect the others to pick things up from them, result being that you'd have a shop where they know a fair bit but also know who to ask if the customer comes up with something they've never encountered before.
