Jessops Experience

To get right back to where you started - I use a Manfrotto Modo (ie cheap!) monopod with Tamron 500mm lens, and it makes a huge difference. The pod itself is small enough to leave collapsed and attached to the camera when you are walking around, but has allowed my to get decently sharp shots with that lens down to 1/125 sec. I leave SR switched on when I use it.

I have nothing to add about Jessops that hasn't already been said!

It wouldn't be difficult to add something to Jessops - as there isn't much there to start with!...

It's so wrong to use a monopod for photography, who on earth would come up with the idea to use a monopod for photography.

Those guys have got it all wrong... according to Jessops.

all those cameras and lenses, and probably not one decent photograph... (is that some kind of very scarey geeky convention? either that or its a prime example of ineffeciency and/or restrictive practices...)

Can you imagine the field day security staff would have at a concert if several people raised camcorders up high on monopods???

That guy on the bottom left corner with a Nikon huge lens has the monopod attached right at the end of the lens, looking through again there are a couple more like that, just curious how does it work for balance? They have the tripod ring right at the edge of the lens, surely if they stopped supporting the camera the whole weight would fall back destroying the lens.

Am just curious that's all, I am sure I missing something, so someone please educate me :

Amin - I think if you look closely you will see that the Ni*on user has a pair of Jessop`s Limited Edition Spectobalance camera shake reduction glasses on his head - these attach snugly to the eyepiece and round the head like spectacle frames or head torches - this then forms a balance with the head and the front mounted monopod - also gives limited point and shoot opportunities if the head is moved laterally or vertically.

I'd like to know why they feel the need to take close-ups of the heads of the people in front! Is it some kind of macro competition or one of these fetishes that you only find out about in the dim, dark and murky reaches of the internet?

Myles - I`ve been on the web and it was a shot taken at the annual "Mine`s Bigger Than Yours" convention organised by a "well known" lens maker.
The particular event was called "Dandruff in the Raw" with the prize for the best macro shot taken on a biggy.Later events included "How quickly can you get yours off ?" and "Where should I stick it ?" which was sponsored by Billingham and Lowepro.

I am off outside now to put some Miracle Grow on my Russian Praotor II 500mm F8 in the vain hope that it might grow ......................
