No need for that since everything that works on vista should work on windows 7 as well.
Running win 7 64bit ultimate (RTM version 7600) for 60 days now without any software or drivers problems.

The important thing for me is that all my versions of Photoshop work fine on Windows 7.

Sue is currently enjoying her new Sims 3 and that runs fine on W7 as well.

Happiness all round.

Could you please be so kind to look up the build number of the final release?

This is the way to do that.
Read Oggy's post below

I'm running 7600 and wondering if the GA version is newer then the RTM one.

---or if it still works - Start>run>winver - a lot safer than regedit.

There may well be some useful information for those contemplating moving from something other than Vista.

Another question I am having difficulty with. What is required for an upgrade version rather than the full? I am running XP upgrade version which I have a full version of 98 to validate.

Thank you Oggy.

Yes valid point but I don't expect any problems of software not running on Win7 that did run on XP, although there might be exception though.
XP 8 years old now I believe.
The biggest problem should be drivers and not the software.

oops sorry Oggy you can upgrade from XP but not directly meaning you need lose every information that was on XP.
But still look for a shop that sells the OEM version they are cheaper then the full retail upgrades.
Also get 64bit version if you can run it.

Here is a read about the upgrade link

I did a clean install of Win 7 after running Win XP Pro for the past few years. I only really use Lightroom 2.5 for my photography needs, this runs fine as you would expect and as yet haven't found a problem with any of my other apps either (MediaMonkey3, Blurb Booksmart, Cyberlink Power Director 7).

I changed my account with Windows 7 so that I run as a standard user rather than as an admin and this hasn't caused any additional issues as the UAC seems to work very well.

I was pleased with the fact that even though my PC is 3 years old (it has one of the first Intel dual core chips in, the 1.86Ghz e6300) it isn't any slower than it was with XP. Also, (possibly) because my machine is a HP business model I didn't require any additional drivers after doing a clean install of Windows 7, it found all the devices straight away , though I have installed an updated version of the nVidia graphics driver.

I've just completed a clean install of 7 Ultimate after using Vista Ultimate since it was released. It was the fastest and most efficient Windows install I've seen in many, many years of computing.

My old but reliable Epson Perfection 1200 wouldn't work with it, but that's not a big deal and I was aware of that beforehand as I used the Windows 7 upgrade checking utility before ordering. I've now got a new scanner (Epson Perfection V500 Photo) so it's time to start converting the 35mm negatives.

What am I missing by keeping XP Pro?

Honest question as I did not use Vista although the family do have Vista.

It looks a bit nicer and security is probably much improved. But as an end user there isn't anything extra I can do with Windows 7 that I couldn't do with Windows XP. I've only upgraded because there is a possibility I will be upgrading my firms computers next year and this gives me a 'heads up'. If I had to pay for it myself I wouldn't have bothered moving from XP.

Maybe in time you will find that later versions of your applications are only supported on Windows 7.

We haven't ever upgraded an existing OS, only moving to new ones as we buy new computers. As a consequence we have Windows XP, Vista and 7 and all of them function just fine. The most annoying one is I suppose is Vista that keeps asking questions about whether or not we want to proceed.

Can this be switched off? It's not a huge deal though as it's still fast enough.
Best regards, John

Some of the new standards, GPGPU is one of them I believe which isn't found in earlier versions.
It lets the graphics processor do the calculation it's good at meaning your overall PC performance is much better. You will see a lot of speed improvements with Photoshop for example with this.

Then of course security and I must say stability is also good, I used XP 64 Before this one and his core was the server version of windows and that one was super stable also but Win7 seems just as good.

ps. could someone please do this.
Press start, then in search type winver and then click on the program winver.
it shows your windows version and I want to know if I need to upgrade my version or if the GA (General availability) version is the same as the RTM (release to manufacturing).
It's the build version I need, thank you very much.
