Jessops 360AFDP

I'm looking for some assistance if possible. I bought a Jessops 360AFDP second hand with no manual. I can't find one online. I appreciate it is TTL. I've tried it with my K30 set on Av mode and it behaves really erratically with continuous flash bursts every time I change aperture. I've tried it with my son-in-laws K200 and it appears to trigger correctly on this camera though it won't reduce the shooting distance below 13m. Does anyone know if this flash cannot be used with these cameras? Otherwise I may have bought a dud.

I had exactly the same issue with the the Jessops 300AFDP, mine works fine with the k10 bus cannot cope on the K30.

I don't think it is a dud.

I've worked out how to set it to manual - S equals Manual (!) - and then I can set the iso, focal length, power and f stop. It works ok then. That will do for me - it'll make me slow down a bit when I use it - which is infrequently anyway.

Now I'm really confused. As above I managed to get the flash to work on my K30 in manual mode yesterday afternoon and it worked consistently. I tried it last night and again today and I cannot get it to fire in manual mode. If I put it in TTL mode it does fire - but does so erratically - every time a setting is changed a low power burst is set off. Once the camera is set it does work.
However when I try it on my son-in-laws K200 in TTL mode it works every time - without error. However I cannot get it to work on the K200 in manual mode.
Anyone any ideas?

I trust your shutter speed was set to 1/180 or lower? Other than that if your problems persist I'd be tempted to try another model. Legacy flashes with a manual setting are two a penny or you could try a yongnuo for more creative control.

Yes I had it set for lower than 1/180th. I appreciate that you can pick up cheap manual flashes - I just sold one on eBay for £0.99 .
What I don't understand is what the difference is between the K30 and K200 flash control.

I can't remember but is the K200 TTL?

Unfortunately my son-in-law never left me a manual for the K200 so I don't know -but that would answer the query. Though I thought someone said all digital Pentax were P-TTL.

No, it's P-TTL (as is the K30)

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but after buying a Cobra D650 from another member here I thought I'd dig out this flash and see how they compared in manual mode. I eventually got a set of instructions for this flash - it appears to be a Tumax DPT386AFZ and the instructions do claim it is P-TTL. It's also appears to be sold as the Polaroid PL-144AZ.
I've managed to get it working in both manual mode and slave mode but not P-TTL the camera just fires the flash randomly - even without the shutter button being depressed. The strange thing is that in manual mode the camera shutter speed will go no higher than 1/90 with the flash mounted - no matter the other settings. With the Cobra D650 I can set the shutter to 1/160 and it works fine. With the Jessops there is obviously some interaction with the camera - it does have all 4 pins. It works fine in slave mode - firing off the on board flash ok.

Just another update on this for anyone with this flash or the listed badged ones. If you blank off the digital pin - that's the one on the foot towards the front of the flash then you can set the camera shutter speed to higher than 1/90.
