You've nailed these for handheld (although I can't see No. 5 for some reason), esp. the ducks.

I've given in to temptation and ordered a 150-500mm off SRS. With the K-5 I should be able to stop down to around f/9.5 most of the time. I'll have to see how it compares to the Tokina 80-400mm.

Thanks for all your comments / suggestions.
I've tried to stick to F8 or above as I understood the Sigma was a bit softer wide open, will have a play next time I'm out.

This is one of the reasons the K5 keeps teasing me, at the moment I don't like to go above ISO 800 on the K7, even preferring to stick to 400 and below. I've given in to temptation and ordered a 150-500mm off SRS. With the K-5 I should be able to stop down to around f/9.5 most of the time. I'll have to see how it compares to the Tokina 80-400mm.

400 was my limit with the K20D, so I'll try 800 (so far OK) and 1600.

My 150-500 is wide open most of the time, and often fully extended. Give it a go, you may be happy with the results

It was quite dark as they were under some trees. There were 2 Jays but I couldn't get them in the same shot.
