The Sigma 150-500mm has just arrived from SRS. Only ordered at 3pm yesterday and here 250 miles away at 11am next day. Packed in a massive box with loads of protection.... Well done SRS

I've never used anything bigger than 400mm before and the size is a bit of a shock. Three quick shots at 400ISO of an alarm on a house opposite show it's quite sharp wide open and doesn't seem much different at f/8 and f/9

Now to find some unsuspecting sparrows!

Managed to sneak up on a young blackbird in the garden.
I've put the photo in the Gallery.

Seems a sharp lens, a quick test on a brick wall showed very
little difference between wide-open and f/8

I didn't think I'd like the in-lens SR but it's very nice
seeing the viewfinder go steady after about a second.

Algi, I don't think you'll regret buying it. Nice blackbird pic by the way.

I was like you with the in-lens SR and I now prefer it. I find its esier to compose at long focal lengths rather than battling to stop myself shaking when using the camera SR.

On shorter focal lengths I don't think theres much between the two.

I think we may have to watch that we don't get too overconfident that the SR is doing better than it is. I got that way with a Sony camcorder and went back to doing shaky movies

I hand held no problem to longer than 1/100 sec regularly with the in lens SR. I posted a picture of a fox on here at 1/20 sec, although admittedly there was only one image sharp out of six I had taken.

Its fabulous

Lovely bird, great shots.

I'd love a 150-500 and I'm trying to persuade myself to buy one but I can't go that last step and ringing SRS. Should I???? How would it be with a K10D?

Cheers,

Howard

I jumped because the £600 price is so good Most other places are charging £850/£900 The quality is very good, although earlier one's seemed a bit more variable.

Rain again here so I still can't test it properly, but looking at some blackbird shots I did with the DA*300mm f/4 it's hard to tell which is the better lens. The big drawback with the 300mm is that it isn't a Zoom and it's only 300mm, even with the 1.7x adapter it still isn't a zoom and there is a drop in quality, but it's a lot smaller to handle.

Should be no problems with the K10D. Whenever I see a photo that's so sharp that it impresses it's usually been taken on a K10D. Have a look at Marc Langille's photos on here and the US forum.
