Try some still pictures first and work from there - catching animals is about the most difficult thing you could have chosen to start off with!

Lenses don't have focus screens, so back to basics?
Best regards, John

I guessed that as I was used to shooting pics of the dog with my k-x, it would have better results with the K5. Maybe im jumping the gun.

Post a few examples of the poor shots with intact exif data. Always helps the experts on here get to the root of a problem

how do I do that ? i think it seems to be a back focusing issue. I kept trying to get the dog in focus and although it the camera was focusing on the dog he always came out less focused than the background

If you look in the 'Add a Comment' box below, you'll see 'Image'. Click it, and it'll open another window that'll let you link to an image on your computer or a web-site.

BUT, nothwithstanding your previous experience, take a shot of an inanimate, static, object if you want to test the focus accuracy of your lens/camera combo.

Tongue and nose look pretty sharp

Looks ok

Trouble is they're all low res and don't have intact exif data. I suspect it got stripped out when you down-sized them.

Are the originals on Flickr or similar? If so, could you link to them please?

CDAF - contrast detection auto-focus

My old man always said "If you don't know the answer, ask the question"

Besides which, this lot are used to me looking like a turnip...

Thinking it has something to do with contrast detection - but unsure how to do a 'contrast-detected-auto-focus' is it just simply 'use AF'?

Somebody?
