Is the Pentax a Pro System?

Difficult to argue against this one. I thought long and hard before i bought into Pentax, but i did it from an enthusiast view point. The simple fact is if I was thinking from a proffesional viewpoint I would probably go with Nikon , Image, support, lens hire, they all add up.

Often the grass seems greener, but in reality there are just new problems. I've seen people struggling with them...

Are you a pro then?

If I were (especially sports) then I would go with Nikon or Canon .. simple as that.

Are you asking me Mike? If so, the answer is yes, I do photography professionally, for money. And I use Pentax to do it.

Nope, I don't believe you were asking if Pentax was a Pro system.

Fair enough Mike, the question followed another post, I guess we should use quotes to specify what we're replying to. And I just haven't either....

But it all comes down to what you need from an system, all of their pros and cons non is flawless.
For studio photography I can't see why one brand would be better then another for example, besides a faster shutter sync maybe. With sport Canon and Nikon has the edge with the other forms of faster photography, but the most important thing of all is the photographer himself.
Sometimes all that talk about the latest and fastest AF and the best high ISO and other gadgets sounds like it's never good enough, sometimes that makes me wonder how they thought they made a photo in the early days... those photographers must have been gods to even get a decent photo out of those machines

About the flash triggers the ones dictated to Nikon or Canon support their TTL mode but most pro's don't use that mode since it's inconsistent so all they need is a simple wireless trigger with a middle contact that only just triggers.

The stobist use a pocket wizard for example, mighty expensive but he mostly only use the flash in manual mode so he could easily do with a simple trigger.
This guy link use these triggers link all these do is trigger the flash and nothing more.
If you're going to work with studio equipment, those flashes don't even support any kind of TTL so you will need to work with them manually so just a trigger is enough and that counts for every brand.

So you don't need the fancy pocketwizard that works with P-TTL mode to make good photos, it's the opposite.

ps. sorry for the rant.

I suggest looking at some of the quality photos submitted to the Gallery or the Your Photos forum of this site. I'd be amazed if they could have been improved in any way by using an alternative marque. In fact, I'd go as far as to say my pictures would be far worse (not that they're any great shakes anyway) because I wouldn't have the range of lenses at my disposal which using the K mount allows us.

Regards,

Andrew
Best wishes,

I just dont get the point of this thread at all. Didn't we have another thread from the same poster about Pentax support and wireless triggers. There are umpteen manufacturers making wireless triggers compatible with Pentax, I even gave the OP a link to some. Is he is comtemplating starting a career as a photographer?

Yeah you're right and he sold all of his kit in the mean time, so yes that makes you wander about this thread.
It's also one thread that has gone here sometimes more and the others all ended up by the OP saying that it isn't true all the things we said and him/her leaving.

Not only that he already asked the wireless trigger in this thread, and then ignored all of the responses.

simple answer, if you like pentax and get good/great results, buy pentax. if you dont then move on..simple. doesnt come down to wether the system is a pro system or not, whats on paper doesnt matter. On paper the k-x is an entry level, i personally class it as mid level, thats my feelings and what i get on well with.

Oh, I do hate to get into this 'Is Pentax a Pro system'. I've had a glass (or three) of Isla Negra so I'm immune to all sorts of brickbats.
Most firmly, I have to say, whatever lets you take and sell photos is a pro system. Nothing more, nothing less. I've recently had 40 odd photos I took in Costa Rica published by the Open University - all taken on a K100D (all of 6MP). Before that I had a Canon S2 IS - yes, a bloody point and shoot - and I sold photos from that happily. Really all people want (as far as I can tell) is an image that sells their point of view and they don't give a tinkers cuss if it was taken on a Nikon, Pentax or a Technika-almost-disposable-digital-point-and-shoot. All so long as you shoot what they want.
