K10 Firmware

I bought a K10 in May 2007. I never even thought there would be any firmware updates. I have just come across various updates that have been done for my camera. Do I need to install all the updates or can I just do the latest one and that will include everything. I am a bit unsure about updates because my Nokia phone never worked again after updating that.
Any info would be a help, thanks.

This topic here covers aspects of updating the firmware.

Yes the latest one.
The firmware isn't updated but totally replaced so the last one has all the updates.
I've never heard of someone bricking his camera because while updating the firmware, just be sure you've enough power in the battery.

Hmmmm how did they do that?
The camera even refuse firmware not intended for the camera so it could only be that the camera turned off during updating right or did something else happen?

Usually either a power glitch, data corruption or electromagnetic noise Stefan.

We have machines at work which stop radios working when they are switched on. I wouldn't want to be doing a firmware update anywhere them.

Well okay but you don't have those machines at home, or at least I don't think anyone will try to update their camera while it's on a microwave and making some popcorn while you wait for the update to finish.

A power glitch would be most likely, can they fix a bricked camera at Pentax, they wouldn't need to replace the whole board right?

Leave well alone, that's my Motto ! I haven't done anything to my K10D since I got it in about 2006 or 2007 and it still works-- not even use the 'dust shaking off' thingy as there is no dust inside to shake off !

Well you will be missing focusing with SDM and some more things, have you just seen the ISO preformance upgrade from the K7 with the new firmware?

I hope no-one has got one of them - mine's the prototype. There are other things which you are more likely to have in your home like high voltage gas ignitors, phobile moans, wireless networks etc.

Saying that I have no hesitation in doing a firmware upgrade having taken sensible precautions eg fully charged battery.

I believe that Pentax can recover most firmware upgrade failures, but they will not do it under warranty.

I think you might be surprised Peter...

Select f/22, point the camera at a plain white surface, defocus it, and see if the image the camera produces is a clean, plain tone, or a plain tone with various dots on. I'd wager the latter.

I have not tried to update the firmware on my K10, as I know it will fail. Yes I am a pessimist.
I think that all camera manufactures should provide an up date service free of charge, if they change the firmware.Because if was correct from the start, updates would not be necessary.
