The iPhone is brilliant for text messages, knocks spots off the keyboards of other mobiles.

Yes sorry about the accelerometer, thought the first iPod touch didn't had that one but it has.
For the rest it seems we are talking about the same thing so won't comment on that.

I don't have an Apple product so you need to say if they use the keys they have or if most apps also only use the screen.
It shows! They all have exactly the same basic controls.
With this I was asking if most apps on the iPhone actually use those buttons, from what I see with my smart phone the thouch-screen is the main form off input for most apps and the physical or on-screen keyboard is used to input text if that's needed. Some apps do also use the buttons but those aren't essential, the use of those buttons that is.

As for customers that have too much to chose is something that cuts from both sides. If you do a lot of texting on your phone and want a full keyboard then the iPhone is not an option or if you want 4G or you want a resistive screen instead off captive for example.
Why can you not do a lot of texting from an iPhone? I can type faster on it than my old E90 which had a full physical keyboard. The iPhone is most definately an option, stop making things up!! There are no 4G networks running over here yet, so this is nonsensical to even mention it. Give me one good reason why you would want a resistive screen instead of a capacative one, have you even tried them? Sheesh!!
Not everyone is the same so someone else might find something different and that's what I talked about, I don't know why you made it personal?
That you type faster on the iPhone has nothing to do with people that actually want a physical keyboard, so if someone really wants one than that's their choice and since the iPhone doesn't have one it isn't an option.
But 4G is coming though within 2 years in the Netherlands according the reports and currently we've WiMAX here which the iPhone can't use I believe.
About the screen the same with the rest, it's a choice some people want to make, why would you deny them their choice?

But good I give you an example, if you've a prostheses you would have troubles with a captive screen.

The ability to chose is not something negative in my eyes and I believe you better have too much chose than too little.
We can agree on this in principal. However, please show me the average customer who is thinking 'right, I want a smart phone, Android looks good, so I want one with an out of date operating system, hardly any RAM to store any apps that I can't run, a mediocre screen resolution, and some buttons but I'm not sure how many yet.
[/quote]Off course there is non so don't be silly.

What do you mean with apps that I can't run?

You get as much choice with an iPhone as you do with a Nintendo DS (4 each so far). Choice is good, too much choice though and it's not as attractive for all those involved.
are you suggesting we might see an iPhone Lite or pocket in the future?

Nobody said it was wrong Stefan. My opinion is that the touch screen of the iPhone is a doddle to use, much better than the tiny keys on the physical keyboards provided by some manufacturers.

Somebody else might disagree and that's fine.

Sorry John I took it a bit differently, far harsher then you intended.
I'm with you on this though but my father for example dislike it so he bought one with physical keys, if that makes him happy then so be it.

Tim, are you watching lord of the rings again

Sadly have to agree.

It comes to something when discussing touch screens to use lack of fingers as a reasonable argument.

Does make you wonder what planet some people are on sometimes.

Danny as far as mine understanding goes about trolling, it's Tim that's doing it on this page.

Trolling is trying to get a rise out of someone. Forcing them to respond to you, either through wise-crackery, posting incorrect information, asking blatantly stupid questions, or other foolishness. However, trolling statements are never true or are ever meant to be construed as such. Nearly all trolled statements are meant to be funny to some people, so it does have some social/entertainment value.
I was very serious with my answers and question so I doubt it falls under trolling.
Although some answers you gave me weren't so maybe you're trolling?
To be honest I don't care but I don't like it if someone is accusing someone else for something they help to happen.

Danny it was you asking that question while you took it out of context and saying I am the one wanting a resistive screen instead of a capacitive one while I didn't say that at all.
I only said that some people might want to have a resistive screen instead of a capacitive one and this was in the context of having a choice.
People sometimes want things because they think or feel they are better for them or they are accustom to it, something like UV filters for protection for your lens.

Since you asked it I just thought to be nice, go with the flow and give you an answer regardless how you changed things.
The only good answer I could think off to get a resistive screen instead of a captive one is if you've a prostheses hand as far as I understand the captive screen won't work with that material so I'm basically saying that the captive one is the best touch screen off the two for telephones.
Hooray that means I think the iPhone has a good touch screen and indeed it was one of the things to get an iPhone for and I'm happy other phones are also getting it now.

Really no one should feel offended by this comment, I just think it wasn't fair what happened and that's why I wrote it. If you think I'm wrong then so be it, I only wrote from my perspective, my feelings and we are all different but lets not stand still by this since this is getting nowhere and certainly not improving things

I've had great talk with Danny a month or so back about... "this"
I've wrote a comment to Tim to also talk it out but I didn't get a reply on that and from then on he ignores me but sometimes he post flaming comment about me.
I try to response on those by making it into a joke with smilies and winks to show I don't mean it serious at all hoping on a same reaction back so we can all laugh and break the ice but well no luck, at least the intention was there.

So as to not get into a pointless discussion with Stephan I am just going to suggest the iPhone.

I have owned and used the original iPhone and now the 3GS (which I am using to write this reply). The keyboard is nice and big, with bigger keys than a lot of phones with physical keyboards.

I have never used an Android phone, and probably never will now that I have my iPhone. However, I am not saying that my choice is "right", just that is works for me.

Oh, Stephan, prosthetics tend to be made from silicone rubber or have a rubberised coating these days, promoting better grip, and incidentally (although not deliberately) helping with the use of touch screens.

Although those with plastic hands/fingers can apply a padded plaster and have the same success.

Yes Stefan, I have been ignoring all your controversial statements (sorry about that, but I don't think I can endure another circular discussion with you). I am not ignoring you entirely though, if you say something sensible I'll be glad to reply.

I called you a troll because you spend so much time and energy trying to find fault with the iPhone for no apparent reason. If you don't like the iPhone that's fine, don't get one - no one else cares what phone you use.

Stefan is quite serious in what he says and clearly not trolling here.

You are free to disagree, but that does not have to involve personalities. Disagree with counter arguments by all means.

Sorry John, I'll stop calling Stefan a troll. Although I'm not sure what the seriousness of Stefan's comments have to do with whether or not he is trolling. The definition Stefan posted is an odd one, and not at all how I understand trolling. Rather than write an essay on it, here's a web definition which roughly agrees with how I see it (particularly the bolded part):

Quote:
A troll [the message, not the author] is deliberately crafted to provoke others with the intention of wasting their time and energy. A troll is a time thief. To troll is to steal from people. That is what makes trolling heinous.

Trolls are motivated by a desire for attention by people and can't or won't acquire it in a productive manner. Someone may be insufferable, infuriating, fanatical, and an ignorant idiot to boot without being a troll.

Also note that a troll isn't necessarily insulting, snide, or even impolite. Only the crudest, most obvious, forms of trolling can be identified so easily.

If you find yourself patiently explaining, at length and in great detail, some obscure point to someone who isn't even being polite to you, then you are probably being trolled.

Jumping Ship from iPhone to Android: A Switcher's Guide

If you're sick of Apple's walled garden but have yet to make the jump from the iPhone to an Android handset, here's what to expect, how to adjust, and how to cope with certain app withdrawal.

Let me preface all of this by saying that for many—not all—the switch from iPhone to Android will feel like being covered in band-aids and ripping each one off over the course of a few weeks. This is not because there's anything particularly wrong with either mobile operating system, but because they have different paradigms. Android and iPhone feel different, look different, and accomplish things in sometimes very different manners. Nonetheless, they're both mobile operating systems with touch interfaces, so it's hard to avoid comparing the two and finding similarities between them.
