I own the ZX80 and 81 but only in the last few years, I to like yourself started with the 48k then the 128k and then the 128k +2 with the built in tape recorder, I never got to have the +3 as I then found out about girls...Quote:

I had one! But i wrote a program for it in Basic. But to be frank i lost inferest fairly soon, i could not really find a use for it. Maybe i was already too old. Those were the days of Spectrum vs Commodore 64.... memories!

Well, I called at Currys yesterday to pick up something else the wife had ordered in the sale that we don't need, so went to have a look at all the other tablets on offer. And try hands on.
And...
The iPad is still the best in my view, for a full size tablet, unless we are talking about the smaller size tablets like the iPad mini, and then everybody else offers better value for money.
I tried the Kindle Fire HDX and for £169 it beats the iPad mini hands down, lovely little tablet but the screen is just to small, hardly any apps available compared to the rest of the market and feels cheap in the hand, but for a good £100 less then the iPad mini it must be a bargain.
The rest of the android and windows based tablets were just to clunky in their operation next to the iPad.
So I tried the rest, and I am just glad I own the best, but I think our iPad mini my be finding its way onto eBay soon.
And...

yeah I'm not saying which is best for you..
but for someone who doesn't intend to install that many apps they may find most of the ones they need are on Amazon and a remaining few they then side load

May I suggest that whatever tablet you get should have a 3G slot for a SIM, an internal microSD card slot and the ability to connect an SD Carder via the On The Go (OTG) connection facility.
Then you can, if you want/have to, send files to your home/"the cloud" or wherever when you are anywhere within the relevant 3G catchment areas - then you can (almost!) be sure that something really valuable can be "off-loaded" to somewhere "safe", as you may not be able to do that with a WiFi-only tablet.
They may not be the "latest and greatest" but I have an ASUS FonePad, and just bought the wife the later FonePad7 for Xmas, both of which have 3G, uSD card slots and OTG and very long battery lives - had mine for 7 months and love it for those reasons! Some of the Galaxys have similar facilities but they are generally (often a LOT!) more expensive (ours were £180 & £230 respectively, from Amazon in Germany!)

K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

If you have a smartphone with a data plan you can (in most cases) also use the phone 3G/4G connection with your tablet and save your self a separate fee….
