Not an appropriate comparison. However, if Apple decided to sell DSLRs and then offered a "super high quality 16-50mm f2.8 lens" for £1800 there are people who would but it because it has an "Apple Logo" whereas all it would be is a rebadged Pentax available for £900.

Agreed, Apple try and lock their users in. I think their hardware is over priced. The price differences for more memory are ridiculous considering it costs peanuts.

If you have an Android device, you can dowload the "Rawdroid" app. It reads just about any RAW files you can find.

As a last minute Xmas present, I bought my wife an iPad air 128Gb. I bought the max ram version purely for storing her best images.
She shoots her pictures on a Pentax Q and will use the iPad for several things; viewing her best images, Skype, email and maybe even take a few shots with it. Buying a Apple product does not mean continued payments to Apple.

No they don't do the same job. Apple products at a hugely inflated price do not give results that are hugely better than lower cost alternatives.

Look at the prices for the to 128GB versions WiFi and WiFi+Cellular. The cost of internal storage - just a change to the SSD module during production. £240 to go from 16GB to 128GB. The full retail price of a high quality SSD lifetime warrranty SSD is around £70 for a 1200GB. Apple will be paying way way less than £70 each for them.

Exactly and that is what I was suggesting. And you could probably have used devices from the same supplier as Apple for £80.

If you can afford the best then why not buy the best, if you can't then buy the best you can afford, that goes for day to day life surely, cars, cameras the type of coffee we drink, the question was, what is the best tablet not what is the most expensive one, oh and by the way that's Panasonic..
And as for paying for apps, I have never paid for one in my life, and have everything I could ever need from the Apple store for free.

I think some of your facts are unfortunately not indeed facts. If you simply trawl the available tablets in PCWorld you'll find the Kindle HDX 7", Nexus 7 7" and Toshiba Excite 10" have quad core processors - as opposed to the iPad dual core, they have greater resolution - 299 to 313 ppi as opposed to iPads 263 ppi, more RAM - 2GB as opposed to 1GB and are approximately half the price.
These are bare bones facts and not how each device performs - but they are facts.
I agree that from most commentary it does appear that non-technical people buying tablets are able to operate an iPad more easily than an Android device but that is subjective. Remember Android phones are in the majority so how does that stack up ? Do they simply use them as phones?

At the end of the day as i have stated for the money, OS, screen, size, weight it is outstanding for what me and my family want it to do, and like i said i am not an Apple fan.
I also drive a Hyundai i40, i drink freshly ground coffee in the morning and i think the USA is a fanstastic country, i vote conservative and dont enjoy soap on tv.
So please pick that one apart....

I was simply trying to correct some incorrect statements that were put forward as facts. As far as the rest of your last entry I think it's irrelevant to the original post. As a number of people have commented the best idea is to go to your retailer with the most extensive stock and try out a many tablets as possible to find your likes/dislikes and what extras/attachments each tablet has. For instance I'm typing this on a USB connected keyboard to my Samsung Tab 2 which effectively turns it into a mini netbook - cost £3.99 - for the keyboard and cover that is.

I use a 2 years old Sony tablet. It has a full size SD card slot, and it can even use the SD card as a RAM.
It is always in my camera bag. I can use it to review pictures on a decent screen, and send them to other people using the "intelligent" phone as a proxy for internet connection.
A very handy thing.

...the iPay devices are designed to be simple to use! But if you are willing to do a bit of research and try a few tablets you can probably find something much cheaper and equally as suitable.
It does come down to personal preferences, the screen is clearly important to you as is the ability to connect a storage device, these were the 2 things I wanted so I ended up with a Nook HD, it was originally designed as an E-reader (I believe) but to me the high quality screen looks better than most other tablets and pretty much on a par with the iPays. I use a Micro SD card to view photos (great when you're away and want to see your shots in decent resolution quite quickly) - but to be honest I would like to be able to connect an external hard drive (not sure how many devices this is possible with).
Hope my experiences help a little.
