iPad or other tablet for viewing and storage

Ive recently backed up an archive of my images on a private Flickr account. I bought a Seagate backup plus hard drive which you can now buy ob amazon £67. The best thing about the Seagate is it has a very easy to use software that will backup all your images ti Flickr in the background.

ive used many tablets over the years and last year finally settled for the iPad. The main reason is in the two years since the iPad came out i have git through three android tablets, each one failed to get an android update from google leaving three devices totally useless. Two of them wouldn't update to the google store or the new google play store. Meaning the tablets would no longer download new app versions and if you do a hard reset wont be able to download older apps either.

i think i can safely say my iPad will be working with updates for at least another two years before becoming obsolete and tablets have a terrible short lifespan due to software and hardware upgrades.

oh and I still own a galaxy tab which hasn't seen any daylight for at least three months now the iPad is that good.

And when you try to upgrade some of their hardware you give lots and lots to them.

Apple hardware and software is way way overpriced.

At least with apple you get to talk to someone if you have problems, tried dealing with problems with Samsung gear? A £329 iPad will outlive three Samsung tablets. Its when you take all that into account you realise the total cost of ownership of apple products is not as expensive as the initial purchase price suggests.

And are you suggesting google or Microsoft don't take a cut from apps in their app stores?

Large successful corporations always seem to attract a hate group, be it Apple, Microsoft, Google...they have all had their moments. Companies are there to be successful and make money, there's nothing unseemly in making a profit. Good profits mean lots of new technology.

My feeling is that the Apple products are expensive but high quality. I don't like Mac computers much, but the iPhone and iPad are reliable and efficient. As for Apps, they have to be approved and of a standard as well. There are plenty of free Apps, including many major and significantly useful ones.

Miss Smeggy has a Samsung tablet. When it had problems she phoned someone up and got it sorted.

I don't hate Apple, but there's a lot of propaganda broadcast about them.

I have no issue with high quality and paying an appropriate price for it. However, I do have an issue with extortionate pricing.

Memory upgrades - Apple £800, Other suppliers £240 and there is no difference. The chips and cards are made on the same production lines, they are tested to the same standard, they have the same manufacturers part number and labels. One has an Apple labelled pack and the other the manufacturers own label.

Monitors - how many manufacturers of LED screens are there? Just four I believe. Have you seen the price of Apple screens when compared to others of similar quality with probably the same panel drivers and interfaces?

Look at the price of some of their cable assemblies and compare the to others?

So do I, but when there's enough people prepared to pay that extortionate pricing can we blame Apple for taking advantage?

Apple have been able to make their products desirable. If a manufacturer can do that they will be successful.

Some camera manufacturers have been doing that for years, decades even.

Runs Jellybean 4.2, I have already downloaded a few photo apps such as the Epheremis, DOF calculator and another one to generate thumbnails from RAW

You cannot just plug a card reader in,need a micro USB to female USB lead plus the Nexus import media app, this applies to any Android tablet as far as I can tell.

Although this tablet only has 16gb memory you can plug in a micro SD card adding a max of another 32GB. Another useful feature is a micro HDMI socket so you can connect to a TV or monitor with the appropriate lead

Screen seems very good and hardly any difference when compared with my daughters Nexus 7 (MK1)

Embedded Tesco apps are not invasive, so unusually for me quite impressed with a product from Tesco especially given the price and still very good for the RRP of 120 quid

Exactly. I can't blame them for that. That's the skill of PR ( marketing ) I blame the consumers for buying into it. Don't forget that McDonalds is highly successful and sells it's products very successfully it's made them desirable

If someone can sell a product at a much higher price than other products which are just as good then all respect to them.

The reason I don't buy apple products is not becuase I hate Apple, it's because I can get equivalent quality for much less money.

Everybody is at some point going to be anti something, But surely it's down to what suits.

I am not an Apple fan, I don't own any other Apple products at all, But...

The iPad IS the best tablet on the market bar none, it has the best screen by a mile, the fastest processor, the best operating system and the number one plus point for me and my family is that it is just so easy to use right out of the box,

Yes it costs a bit more then the others, but so does the Pentax 16-50mm compared to the Pentax 18-55mm....... Both do the same job, one is a lot more pricey then the other, but which would you rather use???

Next term my daughters school is returning all the Samsung tablets and replacing them with the iPad, due to problems with the children getting to grips with the OS and also a number of problems with reliability.

If you can afford the best then why not buy the best, if you can't then buy the best you can afford, that goes for day to day life surely, cars, cameras the type of coffee we drink, the question was, what is the best tablet not what is the most expensive one, oh and by the way that's Panasonic..

And as for paying for apps, I have never paid for one in my life, and have everything I could ever need from the Apple store for free.

So please do not confuse the iPad being the best selling tablet in the world just because everybody wants to jump on the Apple bandwagon, it's the best selling tablet in the world because it's the best current tablet in the world. Fact.

But they were desirable nearly 100 years ago before marketing and the internet, so that doesn't count

I use both Apple IOS and Android (and my wife's windows phone from time to time…). A while back I walked into a shop selling mobile devices and asked them about differences. Their short reply was "if you like to customise your device and are more technical, buy an Android, if you don't and just want the easiest experience, buy an Apple". IMO this summarises it well and it is also my experience. There are no great differences, but Apple products are the simplest to use, this is probably the bright side of the proprietary and expensive environment. (and are the best looking products, for those who care)

To me the most complex is Windows, I just cannot follow its logic. But I know people who love Windows phones and think they are the easiest to use (the ones I know are pretty technical people, though).

So it does really depend on your own preferences and ways of working. But I have never found an Apple device user who would claim their device is not easy to use….

My recommendation would always be to try different tablets (friends? relatives?) before selecting the one that works for you.
