In praise of a proper camera shop...

You may have seen elsewhere some posts on the subject of the misalignment between the viewfinder and the sensor on my GX10. Others who have the same problem on K10Ds have reported that Pentax have been unwilling to fix this problem since it is apparently 'within spec'.

In my case I reported it to the retailer, and lo and behold today a nice white van arrived and took away the camera, while giving me a new one !

The retailer was Bywaters in Waltham Cross (who are also 'digital camera exchange' on the Web) and Andy (the manager) was extremely helpful in sorting this out. Since Samsung didn't actually have any bodies for a while this dragged on a bit, but Andy rang me frequently to keep me posted.

Bywaters did what it takes to keep the customer happy, which is more than I can say for most other companies and institutions.

Highly recommended.

Good for them, and good for you in recognizing their efforts. It is worth paying the "extra" to get a good and reliable service.

There are still some good shops around. We did have 3 ggod ones in Lincoln as well as Jessops. One has just shut although their other branch in Hull is still open. Another is LCE. The guys in there know their stuff and they carry a good stock of film etc as well as the digital stuff. Some of the chains are not bad, it depends more on the Manager than ther chain.

Other good shops I know are a couple in Bath including ACE, Fielders in Sevenoaks, one in Warwick and another couple in the South West. I think the ones in the more provincial cities tend to be better than in the big cities but that is probably due to rents etc and they do deserve our support.

Sent my K10D in for repairs under warranty. Martin and Rachel at LCE Plymouth were extremely helpful. They checked with Pentax techs, ultimately decided I had been waiting too long and yesterday simply sent me a new camera! How's that for customer service!

Mine had a focusing problem which I posted here awhile back if you'd like to read it. But now with the new one in my hands, and after having spent the past month using my old Ist DS, I am reminded what a brilliant camera this is. you'll love it.

Interesting problem with focusing. But that apart, everything I've read is very good. The TIPA award is a little cherry on the top.

Probably getting mine (from Jessops) in the latter half of November. I can't wait!

Still using my Super A and MX (both mid-roll and ready for action), and will continue to do so alongside the K10D.

as a business person I often ask people:

If you are unhappy about me for any reason, talk to me, and I'll make you happy.
When you are happy about me, tell all your friends!

I'd drop the manager a note with a link to this forum to let him know you're happy....cause to be honest, I like to hear it when people are happy too!
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
