I likewise have a K10D and am considering either a Sigma 135-400 or a 170-500 lens to go with it. Any recommendations, thoughts etc about either lens and the combination.
Also I am in New York in a couple of weeks time and the prices over there seem very competitive - presumably there are no issues I should be aware of.
Thanks in advance
Peter

Both lenses are good performers if stopped down to around f/8. They are, however, a little soft wide open.

What about sigma 100-300/f4? This is supposed to be a great lens. Otherwise Tokina or Sigma 80-400 are pretty good too. Tokina is available only second hand for approx 500USD. Its main advantage is its size in comparison to the others.

My wallet twitches badly whenever I see one of the Tokina ATX 80-400's on Ebay! I've resisted so far but its probably only a matter of time...

Why not go the whole hog and get the 50-500 It works a treat on my K10D. It may not have such a wide aperture but it is a great lens. Cheers Vic
Born again biker with lots of Pentax bits. Every day I wake up is a good day. I'm so old I don't even buy green bananas.

I'm actively looking for one and cannot find one in stock anywhere in the UK or the popular US stores. Waiting on back order I did actually get one a couple of weeks back but it was a duffer (focusing/IQ issues) and had to send it back. Why not go the whole hog and get the 50-500 It works a treat on my K10D. I contacted Sigma and they said that they were overwhelmed with demand for Pentax lenses at the moment with demand over 200% of that anticipated for this year.

I rather suspect that the K10 has been a lot more popular than most thought. Interesting that it is not only Pentax who can't seem to keep up with the demand.

Hi Jonathan (Chirpy)
Re your comment:
I know, because I ordered a Sigma 10-20mm for my K10D and am currently waiting to hear from my retailer for a fresh consignment to arrive via shipping container from Japan.
Best regards
Richard

Have you heard that the UK importers of Sigma lenses recently had TWO major break-ins at their warehouse in Welwyn Garden City and apparently lost a LOT of stock !I'm actively looking for one and cannot find one in stock anywhere in the UK

I had heard - terrible business. Still frustrating, mainly because it seems Sigma UK has no idea what they're going to get from Japan until they open their next shipment.

Best keep an eye on eBay then for cheap "as new" Sigma lenses.

Hi Kim
Best keep an eye out for 'police-officers in blue helmets' concealed in hedgerows !
Remember that lenses have serial numbers and serial numbers can be traced. If I ever catch up with the nefarious little so-and-so's who recently hijacked two consignments of lenses from Sigma's UK warehouse, they'll feel my considerable wrath. I've been waiting quite some time now for fresh supplies to arrive by shipping container from Japan, so that I can FINALLY obtain a legitimate version of their 10-20mm super-wide zoom......Grrrrr !!!
Best regards

Check out B&H photo (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/category/989/Digital_Photography.html)while you are over there, they are reputable and have some of the lowest prices in the US, don't forget if you buy while in NY you will have to pay State tax.
