Initial settings and tips for beginner on k10d

Many thanks to everyone that helped me in making a decision to buy the k10d. it finally arrived and I was initially taken aback by the size of the manual. I have now discovered most of it is pictures so aimed with at my level

Can anyone recommend some good initial setting for the camera. The custom menu seems to go on for ever and I know I will need to modify some but most probably at the cost of losing a great picture moment.

Also most of the reviews mentioned the lack of sharpness. I have the comment below:

Quote:

"The K100D setting that Phil thinks Pentax got right is achievable (exactly) by changing to BRIGHT MODE and +2 contrast on the custom menu in the K10D."

I will try this but if anyone else has any other tips or useful settings then I would be most grateful.

I would suggest centre spot focusing, matrix metering and best quality JPEG for starters.

Use one exposure mode of choice (I use Av) for most of the time, unless something dictates a different setting.

Keep it simple, take lots of images and practice until the camera is second nature.

And enjoy it!
