My Portfolio shows examples of what the KR can do.

I'm finding it a much bigger upgrade to the KX than the reviews suggest.

The autofocus and exposure control technology and expoure points in viewfinder are major upgrades. 6 frames a second ain't bad either for a sub £400 camera! I did buy the MKII 18 to 55 off SRS with it though to replace the DAL effort. Much nicer. Mine is boringly black, I leave Purple to my wife's RZ10

Yes I'd preferred to have had (th money for) the K5 but I seriously doubt i'd be taking any better photos other than the higher resolution for cropping or enlarging.

Very nice work!

So my kr started exhibiting a problem... with the scroll wheel dial... random numbers when scrolling through things like aperture or shutter speeds.
Naturally I did some research and found this:

rather than dismantle my kr I blasted the wheel with wd-40...

True to my motto, if duct tape won't work, wd-40 probably will...
It is working properly now.
Will follow up with more info next week to let you know if there are more problems.

My kids laugh at me for thinking WD40 such a wonder fix for things.

Worth a try on the wheel problem if out of warranty but given the newness of the camera I think I'd be sending it back. I gather some of the 645's have had a similar problem so Pentax service must be aware.

I could send it back... but I doubt it is needed, seems to work fine.. I've used wd on many electrical components in automotive and consumer electronics....

I think you've just invalidated the warranty...
Best regards, John

actually I just looked at the blow apart pictures in the link above and concluded the wd isn't going anywhere it could do any harm, and all I need is to clean the connections between the switches contacts so WTH!

Hello Everyone. Call me lazy, but. Just got the KR. Nice camera, you can see that it is a little more consumer, than pro. But I am more consumer than pro as well. Havent really tested it as yet.

Sometimes setting all those whistles and bells on the K20D becomes burdensome, particularly when you are moving from different scenes to others, such as surf photos, to inside or outside wedding photos. Or if you are in a real rush and dont have time to think about what you are doing.

My questions are does the KR focus as well as the K20D. Sharp Photos are very important to me.

Generally are the preset scene modes very effective.

I understand that the K20D is probably a better camera than the KR, but went through the manual, and really find that it is going to be a job, working out the settings when changing cameras. Do I sell the K20D or stick with the K20D and sell the KR. I was very happy with my *ist DS, but was not happy with the KM.

Lastly should I keep the "sexy" white 18-55DAL or the "boring" 18-55 DA.

You might realise the better half is now questioning why I need all this camera gear.

KR, Pentax 55-300 DAL, Pentax DA 17-55, Pentax 35-80, Generic grip, Generic remote, Nissin Flash. HISTORY - MZ 50, MZ 60, *istDS, KM, K20D, Nikon F60, Nikon F90. Large assortment of Point and shoot film and Digital, Sigma 70-300 APO DG, Samyang 500mm mirror lens, Sigma lenses of all assortments. K20D now sold. Sad to see it go, but makes room for an eventual upgrade to the K5 or the K4?

On our recent holiday our pro photographer friend of 40 years was impressed with my KR, it's compact lens system and the results.

He was astounded that my body and three lenses cost just over a grand

I've yet to see what the KR can't do.

Quite impressed with the Kr. While the K20D has some more professional features. I ask myself do I need them. Video is very handy. K20D is on the market. Only 2700 shutter actuations.

Electrical contact cleaner works well on the wheel, in this case on an istDS, and it evaporates fairly quickly so cannot do any damage. Switch off the camera and remove batteries before blasting!
