Yes go ahead, the K-r is a nice camera, give yourself a bit of time to familiarise with your new camera then when on your holidays you will be more comfortable with it and concentrate on taking pictures as opposed to trying to find your way around

K-5 battery from almost flat to full charge 4 or so hours for me

I think the K100D uses four AA Batteries.
The Kr Cell will take roughly two and a half hours, depending how much charge is in the battery when you receiove it.

Get the AA adaptor and your away straight out of the box srs did have an offer of camera plus adaptor and eneloop aa and charger but that was awhile ago.

So much quicker at focusing than the K100D and the picture quality up the ISO range is excellent.
My 15 year old son has inherited the K100D and he is chuffed to bits.
Now! Do I just take the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX on holiday or take the Tamron 18-250 as well?
