Yves, I know it will take you both a long time to get over the death of your dog. Beta died 18 months ago and we are only just about managing to remember all the joy she bought us and talk about things she used to do now. Commiserations to you both

Two things came up this year though...
My Mom died this past spring, and she needed 24-7 care... palitive care in her home for nearly two months... now.. my spouse, Gerri has found her biological father..(she was adopted). he's in Vancouver, so the trip I was planning end of next week, is being changed, We're riding to Vancouver....
I keep telling Mac I'm comming to see him too, but I don't think it'll happen this year, I want at least two weeks to explore Nova Scotia....
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

O.K., since you can churn out such good excuses, I'll give you a rain check. I just flew to Upper Canada Village (in Morrisburg, Ont.) to change my mind. Spent the day there to see how our ancestors were living. I just concluded after that visit that we are very lazy.

While I agree that the simplest answer is often the best answer, in this case, the dog would require some specialized training, even if the 'hole in the heart' void can be filled with a new pet.... there is some mighty big 'Paws' to fill for this families needs....

Hi sorry to hear, I think I know how you feel, when we left SA I had to leave my dogs behind, beautiful brilliant dogs. While we are here missing them, they are halve way around the world missing us, the female is fine, but the male who has been my buddy has not recovered yet and its been two years now, my brother said that the Vet said its because he’s missing us and there’s nothing I can do about it. No other dog will fill the hole in my heart.

Only just noticed this post Yves, and I understand what a rubbish time you and your wife must be having right now.
I had the misfortune to lose 3 dogs in 2 years, two of them who'd been with me since pups to the ages of 10 and 13. Then another dog I re-homed from a rescue centre after those losses succumbed to a virus after I'd only had him for 9 short months...
Dogs are great, and amazing companions/friends, but it's so sad when they go.
It's important to remember the good times though!

They are such a support and such a great miss when they go, my dear ol 18 year puss is slowing down a lot now and I'm dreading it. Eventually you both will look back and feel lucky you had him so long.
