Hugin problem

Atfer stitching a pana together, the outcome often has a large area of black on it
now this is okay if it say, makes up half the file; im fine with cropping from a 21000px by 3000x down to around 10000px to 3000
but ive just had a problem arise where i have black surrounding my image to the point where my image makes under 1% of the file, meaning for a full size version the file would have to be over 1 million pixels in length; something my computer cant handle
Has anyone else witnessed this problem, is there a way to solve it?

For some reason it was told the focal length of my lens was 4400
I wish!
