How to paint a Pentax.

Thank you, George. It's not great, but not bad either.

Firstly, a very expensive acid etching primer, followed by some very cheap, Simoniz satin finish black aerosol spray paint.

Very nice indeed!

Now get yourself over to cameraleather.com and get some nice contrasting panel inserts - Cobalt would look stunning against the black.

Or Cardinal Red, would have a very Pentax User look then.
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

Actually, any of the kid leather shades would look great with black - even the Coral! Spring Green's another Pentax-y colour.

A new leather jacket? - No, I don't think so. It was fun to do, but it will never be worth more than the cost of the paint I put on it... Enough spent on this one, already!

Thanks, Offertonhatter.

Annoyingly, It all has to come apart again. I forgot to replace a ring under the shutter speed knob. I also forgot to re-align the self timer mechanism.

This painting old cameras lark is getting out of hand, y'know!
I's a good job I'm almost out of paint, or who knows where it would end!

In Laboratory go to Tools, Save mode and select Tiff in 8 or 16 bit mode.

Cheers

How did you touch in the Pentax lettering?

My ME Super respray is almost finished but I can't work out how to do this. I'm thinking in terms of the finest paintbrush I can lay hands on for the "PENTAX" lettering, but I don't think anyone makes a brush fine enough for the ME Super lettering.

'Ere! All but one of my pictures have disappeared!

The way I did it, was to buy a white, Pilot extra fine tip paint pen. Ebay item number. 310229229438. You can get them in black, too.
Fill the lettering on the camera with the pen. It doesn't matter if you spill over the edge. Let it dry for a few hours. When dry, stretch a piece of lint free cloth tight over your index finger, soak the tip with lighter fluid, then wipe accross the lettering. The lighter fluid will take off the paint on the surface, but leave it in the 'wells' of the lettering. You may have to do it two or three times before it looks right. You can also use Tip-Ex, but this is not as durable as paint/ink.

I suppose there are ways of doing it better, involving microscopically tiny, size 000 brushes and special low viscocity paint, but I didn't want to go to that much trouble!

I can't wait to see it!
