How is this photo shot?

I recently found this photo linked on digital-photography-school and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how I am able to take shots like this?
i.e. how is it the ground and leaves are motion-blurred yet the road ahead and building in the distance appear much sharper?

what settings would i need to adjust on my K-x (if it's even possible on the K-x...)?

I'm dying to know because I LOVE the effect!

It looks to me as if the camera was clamped to the cycle frame too.

with SR, you wouldn't *need* a clamp, but this was a D80, so....

Has it been post processed? The blur on the bike wheel reflectors doesn't seem to tally with the motion blur of the leaves - I would have expected more smearing on the reflectors?

The blur on the reflectors looks correct to me, given that the reflector is travelling in a circular motion relative to the camera. The motion displayed by the leaves looks correct too as it is in the same plane as the bikes motion relative to the leaves.

I don't think the blur has been introduced in PP, I think it's a genuine image and not too difficult to achieve.

According to the annotation (place your mouse cursor over the bike) the camera was hand held and a VR lens was used.

on shots like that, where the camera is moving, the stationary object (house) which is further away should appear sharper than anything closer to the camera... (I suspect this example has been cropped and the original has the house more centered in the frame)

(it is the same with human vision... sit in a car while it is moving... look out the window to the side and everything seems blurry and appears to be moving fast. then look ahead... the further you look ahead, the more steady the objects appear... and it feels like you're moving slower than you actually are...

On my motorcyle at speeds over 180 km/hr you have to look waaayyy far ahead to be able to see anything sharp... you get a blurred tunnel effect on everything not straight ahead in the distance...)

also noticeable if the object is moving and the camera is steady.... a car moving across the frame at speed is gonna blur more than a car moving towards or away from the camera at the same speed.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Here's one I took earlier. Hand held while cycling behind my niece, 1/8 sec, f8. Going nowhere near as fast as it looks!
