The camera identifies dead pixels and maps their location. Therafter, the software gives them a value based on the surrounding pixels in the image, so they effectively disappear.

John,

Does the camera just do this automatically, or is it a process we have to initiate? If so, how do we start? Would my humble K110D be able (never mind that, would the humble K110D owner be able?)

You have to initiate the process, and I notice that the K20D has the facility in the menus.

I don't think the other Pentax DSLRs can do this.

The lower models of camera have to be sent back to Pentax or a Pentax specialist to be remapped.

You might want to find solutions with software instead. Silkypix, for example, automatically virtually fixes the problem with RAW images.

you can pixel remap on k200, so it doesnt fix the pixel then, it just clones it to its suroundings is this right?.
