Hi MartyS,
Send it to Pentax for repair or if your Ins company will pay out then claim for a new one, you can buy a K20D with cash back etc, good upgrade..
When you have a moment would you please update your location details in you profile..
Thanks.

If you are covered by insurance I would be tempted to make a claim as the amount is significant. Hopefully it would all be written off and you can start again with new kit. If the K10D is still available though, and it may well be, the insurers might want to get you a direct replacement.
Best regards, John

I suppose it all depends on which insurance company you are with, and of course if your covered for accidental damage.
Some insureres will take details of the loss and order replacements on your behalf from their own suppliers, others will simply evaluate the loss and pay you out.
If your insurer uses the former, then you need to make sure they replace like with like, ie; your K10D must be replaced with a K10D (or the K20D if they cant get a K10D) likewise this should apply to owners of the istD, as the nearest current model is the K20D
Of course they'll just up your premium the following year anyway

Yup, I vote insurance too. Your camera may be fixable but it doesn't sound as if the lens & grip are.
You'll be less out of pocket paying your excess & increased premium than replacing all that kit. As the others say, you may be lucky & get a K20d instead.
If they insist you relinquish the damaged gear I'd be tempted to keep the battery, focus screen & lens caps. If they don't, you can always use it for manual focus practice with some nice older primes !

I had a recent insurance claim for a stolen phone and sat-nav. The four year old sat-nav they replaced with a much more highly spec'd new one so I was quite pleased. I couldn't find the receipt so they insisted I hand over the manual, software and cables etc.
For the phone they gave me a sort of pre-loaded VISA card which could be used in a wide range of High St stores, the only photographic one being Jessops. I didn't really need a phone so I bought a washing machine in Currys
This might not be ideal for you unless you are going to settle for a Sony.

Just insist that the insurers send you a cheque so that you can deal with your preferred supplier. Explain the long relationship you have with SRS or whoever else.
I've not made many claims, but when I have I have always insisted on a cheque.

Looking some quick advice
My wife dropped my K10D whilst I was away, the lens sigmas 24-70 EX was smashed in 2 pieces, the battery grip broken at one end, no breaks to the body of camera but the built in flash is not working, the auto focus seems v slow, takes ages to focus.
What should I do? I'll try to claim on house insurance but is it worth trying to get pentax to repair it, investigate it or just claim the money for a new one? How long would it take for Pentax to check/fix it?
Thanks for any advice
