the kit lens should be fine for general photography and most landscapes until you contract the dreaded LBA, for wildlife you can never have enough reach but the 55-300 would be a reasonable start, after that if you get hooked then you better start saving

Chesterfield calling! That's the foreign northern bit of Derbyshire to the uninitiated! I'm married to a Derbyshire lass and after 21 years up here still can't understand Derbyshire Drawl sometimes!
The 55 - 300 DA is superb for wildlife. Get the metal mount DA if you can rather than the DAL kit one if you can. It has quick focus to allow fine tuning of the autofocus with the shutter half pressed, crucial at full telephoto.
I have the Sigma 10 - 20 for landscapes but the kit lens is pretty impressive and as you know very light weight and compact.

South Derbyshire
I've recently purchased my first D-SLR (K20D) and I'm currently lens hunting, previous threads here have helped greatly in researching possible purchases.
Currently I just have the kit lens (18-55) and have an interest in both wildlife and landscapes. I'm considering the DAL 55-300 (with others in the future) and would appreciate your opinions.
