Help K10D Needs Repairing (Fixed)

My K10D suffers from AF misalignment and will not focus correctly with any lens. I thought it was my 50-200 which was at fault originally. Then I got the Tamron 90mm macro and it was even worse. Finally with the 16-50 it was the last straw. I couldn't possibly have all defective lenses. Placed them all on the new K10D and no problems at all! Focus is quick and accurate every time with no miss focusing.

I am glad it is not the lenses but am very irritated that is is the camera as it means being without it for a good long time. I wish I could just get an other K10D to replace this one but that just isn't viable (I don't think many people could do that). It is a manufacturing fault which should have never been there and has caused me all sorts of trouble.

I need to know the quickest way to get my camera repaired or replaced. I know going through Pentax will take a month as will going through the place I purchased the camera (Warehouse Express) as the insist they will just collect it and send it to Pentax. So it would take longer than me just sending my camera to Pentax.

Any suggestions would be welcome as I really need this camera from the 22nd of Dec to the 2nd of Jan.

Seems to be what I am experiencing because of a badly calibrated K10D.

I tried reverting the firmware but that didn't work and I can't get my K10D to focus correctly.

As I have said the new one works with any lens absolutely perfectly.

It's not just a matter of reverting to earlier firmware. You then have to use a hidden menu in version 1.1 to recalibrate the focus.

Yep, that is what I am trying to do. Hopefully then the focusing will be fine and I can then not have to send it off to Pentax to have them do exactly that and waste a month.

YAY!!! I have got a 1.10 debug, 1.30 revert hack and 1.30 original which means I don't need to send it back to Pentax for servicing!!! AF fix is in progress with a test chart, tripod, flash and remote release on timer.

All is now fixed, there is a slight ff/bf issue depending on where the lens starts from when focusing; ff from infinity start bf from minimum focus start point. Nothing major or problematic especially at a decent working distance as DoF increases the further you get from the subject. It isn't really a lens for close up work, that is what the 90mm Tamron is for .

I'll have to test other lenses to ensure proper focusing but it is all looking good.

My K10D was also back focussing slightly which I have attempted to correct. After changing my mind a couple of times I have currently settled with an offset value of 90. Out of interest, what value have you ended up setting?

I thought I had fixed the problem but as it was a rushed job I only made it worse. I have now taken more time to fix it propperly and it seems fine. I can't remember if it was +70 or +80 correction. It makes such a big difference. It is good that it can be electronically fine adjusted thanks to the sr system.
