Hello Pentax users!

Hi there,

Bit cheeky perhaps... as I'm currently an Oly user but plan very shortly to add the K20D and DA* 16-50 to my gear.
I had planned to continue with the Oly upgrade path this year with a new E-30 but instead I have decided to give Pentax a try
I will keep my 510 as it really is a super little camera but I have always liked Pentax, in fact I came very very close to going for a K10D when I originally purchased my E-510.

Cheers!
Regards Huw

Welcome Greytop,

you confess to your sins and therefore you will see forgiveness

Well, you probably have seen while browsing this forum that we are not Pentax fanatics (well, only inwardly :lol.

Have fun browsing the forum and if you have any questions, fire away.

Hi,

I was longing for Oly 510 for long.....compared to Pentax 10D and hesitated. And bought Pentax 10D at last instead of Oly.
Anyway Oly is still "in my head".
I would be very glad when you share your opinion about these two cmeras.(ok youŽll have 20D) When you prefer one to another etc.
Even pic-s from the same place in same conditions....

I still do not understand why so many people do not take oly seriously.

Let us know
Aiki

Oh no, Aiki, you are a sinner as well

Why are people not taking Oly serious? Same reason why they don't take Pentax serious.
The big two are just spending through the nose on advertising and as they are so big it is difficult for the others to get noticed. Sony might be an exception as their marketing is quite strong.

There will always be some people looking beyond the marketing and try to objectively find out what does fit their needs best.

And in this respect you are right, Aiki, it would be very interesting to hear from Greytop how the two cameras compare.

That is exactly what I did, and ended up with a K20D

Firstly because the sensor is so small. Every advance in sensor technology will benefit the APS-C size more than the 4/3.

Secondly because Olympus abandoned their customers when they dropped the OM system. Maybe they would do it again if the circumstances suited them to do so.

Thirdly backwards compatibility is very poor. The OM adapter only works with certain lenses and even then only at a limited range of apertures.

That's my opinion anyway!
Best regards, John

I have not seen it with my own eye - the difference. I would like to see it !!!! Can I notice it !????
Thats why I would like to compare two pic-s taken in the same conditions ....
In estonian it is a saying: "Make it of wood and paint it red!" = make it in details so that the foolest can understand as well!

At last I found sb who has got two cameras that I am interested

PS. Oly has few lenses...but good ones!

Thanks everybody for such a warm welcome, I feel at home already
I have just ordered my K20D and DA* 16-50 plus a spare battery and 8GB SDHC card. Hopefully it should arrive next week at some point (courtesy of SRS )
btw I refuse to get heavily into any debates about one system being better than another. All I can say is I'm not deserting Oly rather I'm adding Pentax to my photo equipment armoury
Each 'system' has its advantages and disadvantages and I can confidently say Oly compares very favourably to other systems (as I know Pentax does).
Still I look forward to visiting the forums here on a regular basis and I can't wait to get my hands on that new K20D
Thanks again for the warm welcome!!

Hi Greytop and welcome to the forum.

Nothing wrong with Oly - if I was a sports / wildlife shooter I'd probably be drooling over an E3 and some of that lovely Zuiko glass... Pentax makes for a nice compliment at the wider/normal end of things.

Welcome Greytop! I'm a bit jealous of your Oly. I like small cameras, and Oly take a bit beating in the size/performance stakes

Enjoy the K20d
