I've commented on the moderator team to the people who actually own this forum, they are happy with the status quo - this is why I won't pay for Pentax Plus.
Perhaps the word 'Moderator' needs to be redefined.

Quotes from the Pentax User Forum T's & C's
Are the moderators here considered to be part of the "Pentax User" entity, or just regular users with administrator like privileges?
Quote:
1. Pentax User is not responsible for the behaviour of any Users of the Forum. Due to the nature of the internet the Forum is accessible by persons in all parts of the world and Users should treat all Forum content with appropriate caution. Pentax User does not operate a policy of reviewing messages which are posted on the Forum.
2. However Pentax User reserves the right to edit or remove any material posted on the Forum at its discretion and in particular if Pentax User considers that material is offensive or is the subject of a complaint by another User. Users should be aware that Pentax User does not generally monitor Forum content.
The parts I've highlighted do not reflect what's actually happening, but that's probably for another topic.1. Pentax User is not responsible for the behaviour of any Users of the Forum. So the title of the General Chat forum can be changed to General Photography Chat, better still, leave it as it is and allow general chat, open forum, any subject.

I have followed this thread with interest, but am concerned that we're losing sight here of two simple facts - (1) this is a photography forum, and (2) what is done is done.
I understand the emotion deleting the thread has caused, especially as for a number of people perhaps the contents of the deleted thread are close to home, but there's only one person here who we should be concerned about and that's Louise, who I'm sure is heartened to know that so many people care.
It is for Louise to agree or disagree with Ken's actions, and from what I have read he has emailed her.
If she is now content with things, so should we be.
People here are intelligent enough and grown up to make up their own minds what they are content with. In fact it's that very Parent -> Child patronision that the majority here are not comfortable or content with and the deletion of that thread is not an isolated incident.

^^^^^^ As I have stated, the persons on here that don't follow the T&c's the most often and almost on a weekly occurrence are the ones that enforce the so called T&c's and threaten us with so called bans?????
It has taken an event such as this, to show, 1, Our support to a fellow member and that we really do care, 2, That the running of this site or should I say, how this site is run, is flawed. 3, The silence of any Mod/Admin shows a total lack of morals of the highest order.
I must also state that I do not want to see anyone's head on a stick, but the longer the silence, the more I feel a change is needed.

It's usually after a discussion like this that lots of members tend to go elsewhere, seen it happen a number of times over the years. All it would take would sometimes for the mods to explain their decision. Yes I know they don't have too and in effect it's their ball we are playing with but what good is a forum with no members?
This year the forum seems to have lost high number of contributing members, mainly due to other factors but for some moderation has been a main bug bear.

This isn't a forum for forum's sake.
It is a forum that was developed as an adjunct to a paper magazine.
The magazine existed as a parasitic device to make money out of a camera brand. It is part of a company that answers to the investors.
We are click bait for all things advertising Pentax and any other advertiser that wants YOUR socio economic profile ticked.
It isn't fair to compare this forum to other forums that are interest based, non-profit making or where the main aim of business is to provide a specialist interest forum.
Anyway. The forum isn't answerable to the users.
The mods aren't answerable to the users.
The owners aren't answerable to the users.

I'm late to this and missed the original thread so can't really comment on it, however the gist I'm picking up from this thread leads me to agree with the consensus. Normally (usually at least) when posts are deleted there's a reason stated, whilst I don't always agree with the reason, knowing the grounds for it usually puts it into perspective.
I was surprised to see 7 pages of comments on a thread only a couple of days old, more surprised to see the first comment from a moderator on page 5 or there-abouts.
John.

It's the moving goalposts that get me.
Louise is a member in good standing who gives and takes from the community.
Whole thread culled without reason.
this post:
https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/what-happens-at-a-camera-club--44700/p-1#comm525336
By a stranger, with a non-Pentax image, promoting off-site activity. A hearty welcome from a Mod.
And now we can't even get them to talk about this issue...
Sigh. So who wants to set up a nice friendly, flexible Pentax UK group then? Or will this question find me warned or banned?

This is the final word. Louise is quite happy with the confidential reason given to her as to the thread's removal. That confidential reason will not be repeated here.

I think it our right to keep this thread active for as long as possible until we get either answers or change, it can't be long now before they have to speak.
