Follow up from my previous post regarding problem with GR. If I download direct from Camera memory with USB cable (card removed), no problem with image display. If I use card in PC slot all RAW come out in colour, not as set on camera (Hi Contrast B&W). JPEG fine in both cases.

I thought, regardless of camera model that all RAW files open in colour and do not incorporate any in camera settings such as Black and white or other colour setting which you are supposed to do on post.

Somebody please correct me if I state something incorrectly here, but as I understand it a RAW image is unprocessed data which will include all the colour information. You will need to process it in your favourite image editing software and save as a JPEG/TIFF or whatever format you like.
The JPEG image you are taking off your camera is the RAW image which has then been processed in the camera. When you ask the camera for a B&W image it will process the RAW file and save it as a B&W JPEG. The original RAW file will not have any changes applied to it.
Similarly, what you are looking at the image on the camera's screen it will be displaying a processed (JPEG) thumbnail, not the RAW image.

The camera is giving you the monochrome jpeg you requested. Having the raw file as well allows you to produce a colour version later if you subsequently change your mind and regret only having the mono version. Best of both worlds!
