I've expanded the title for clarity and I'll move this to the Ricoh section.

Ricoh do seem to have the knack when it comes to hideous special editions. I'm really not sure what market they are catering for. I guess it ensures that in a couple of years there will be a few dirt cheap end-of-line GR bodies knocking around, if you can bear how they look.

From what I can see, the Japanese market loves bright, bold colours and they embrace them with wholehearted enthusiasm.

Plenty of people do here in the UK as well and I see more and more coloured cameras out and about.

Not so keen on the GR finish on this one, but there is a green Pentax Q that looks pretty good. It's just a matter of taste and cameras no longer need to be black. Except for my lovely MX-1, which just has to be black, well for me anyway.

Bold or bright? It's more sludge green ;P

I did stray from thinking about the GR didn't I? Sludge Green, sounds like a great promotional term!

As I am trying to maintain a 'glass half full' attitude - at least it isn't pink

I was gutted when I saw the title of this thread. Having seen the picture I'm happier than ever with my bog-standard edition GR!

What happened to my post John, did it get deleted because I said I quite liked the colour?

It looks almost 'military' certainly it is going for a 'rustic' feel, along with the (rather nice looking) tan leather case & strap. The price isn't all that inflated - in fact given the SRP of the standard plastic adaptor and hood is al ludicrous £60, and a dedicated leather case and strap like that would normally retail for about the same, arguably the camera is cheaper than the standard version, at least at SRP levels!

I'll stick with my standard one for the time being. It is a fantastic camera!

It's a horrible, horrible colour.

And it still has a 28mm-equivalent lens.

I like the fact that Ricoh have not moved too far away from the dark side of the colour wheel, in regard to the camera's stealthy and discreet feel. I do like it, especially with the adapter and hood getting the same treatment...
I just wish they had done a kit deal like this (adapter and hood inc.), with the original version.

Jonathan, the 28mm lens is nothing to complain about, for me and a lot of other's it's the ideal focal length for the street, and very practical otherwise.

The 28 vs 35mm thing is a matter of personal shooting preference.

Of course so is the colour, but I would have thought if you want discreet, there's the black one. Something a bit less sludgey would have been nicer as a special edition... what about silver, or cherry red? Hot pink? Or a proper military-looking green / khaki / gunmetal (without the nasty black 'ebony' grip?)

Metallic green is just yeuch, and reminds me of a Nissan Primera I used to own (the 'sludge-mobile').
