I use Google Picassa and I hear it's being replaced. How do I upgrade, or does it do it itself?

Also Is there an od version of Lightroom I can get where I don't have to pay £8 a month?

Hi,

I've had the free online Picasa for a long time for albums although I've never used the software if that's what you've referred. The software is ending BUT the web space continues as Google Photos which you already have if you use their account (gmail etc). Indeed all my old Picasa albums show in Google Photos.

I use UK made Serif Photoplus X8. This cost me £19.99 for the latest upgrade as I have an account with them for all their products so get big discounts off new versions. Many US firms such as Adobe seem to be going to the subscription model to fend off piracy I guess.

There is a version of Lightroom 6 you can buy outright.
This is a link to Amazon link but you can get it direct from Adobe

I believe that if you already have Picasa it will still operate but there will not be any upgrades. I bought Lightroom 6 from Amazon for a one-off payment but it will not apparently get the upgrades like a subscription service.

Yeah it was my understanding that Picasa will still run.
But long term that product line is over, so there won't be any updates/fixes/patches/new versions etc.

Not a biggie. I'm still onLR4.1. Works fine. it has one bug that won't export GPS EXIF Data unless it is saved to original file, but that's easily remedied by hitting CTRL-S before exporting
