Good bye

I am leaving this forum as from today.

Why? Because until now the plus membership renewing was automatic and the premium for the Plus membership was automatically deducted from my account.
However this time I received some email which required me to fill out all sorts of forms to do this within 14 days.
I was away on holidays and just arrived back to read an email to say that I was no longer a plus member.
Well ,If the management is not capable of renewing my membership automatically so be it.
I really could not be bothered spending the time to satisfy the whims of some people who change something just to justify they're existence

It was nice knowing many of you over the years. your contributions where quite often helpful.
I had my disagreements with the management, but this is not the reason.

I wish you all the best for the future.

Regards, Horst

How about just sticking with a normal membership so you can still post comments and photos? I understand that the renewal of 'Plus' might be a pain, fair enough, but I think the default if you do nothing is to revert to standard free membership ..... ?

I feel it would be more concerning if they kept charging on and on and you couldn't stop the payments, that would be unfair. They're not getting your money, so it's the website's loss. Maybe the feedback can be heard and an automatic renewal option restored?

Fair comment. Worth while thinking about this on my part.

It's a shame to read this. Why don't you speak to the mods before making a firm decision? I've been here for years and only have the free account.

The odd thing is that the forum has never automatically renewed memberships. An e-mail is sent out automatically two weeks before a membership expires, just as a reminder.

All the right points have been made above. Joining brings some benefits, but it's free to stick around and join in with the discussions.
Best regards, John

Still a Pentax user, somewhat disillusioned with it now, would not consider going plus.

I let my plus membership slip but it's less than a tenner so if I want the discounts etc. I can just rejoin.

My Bird Alert Pro annual membership expired without notice, only knew when I couldn't access the site and that was really annoying. May try a different service instead. Or not, we'll see.

Can we consider this one from a different perspective?
I accept that you pay for the plus membership but the free membership is just that -- it's provided for us by people who nevertheless have to do actual work administering the site, maintaining servers and what not, all with scarcely any down time at all. We really ought to be saying, "Thanks guys!"

The big 'Plus' for me is the membership input and sharing. As an advertising supported site I'm fine with the free membership and one a day to the gallery when I have something to share. Apart from lurking on the USA site from time to time for news and their extensive database of reviews, I haven't thus far found a better way to interact with fellow Pentax Users.

I continue to renew my plus membership when prompted to do so annually, even though I've only had one opportunity to use the benefits available (discount on a repair at JPSS). I treat the cost as a small contribution to the cost of maintaining this forum, which is a great resource and a friendly community.

I agree with SteveF, someone has to pay for the site and I like to think my small annual contribution may help.
