I have had a chance to play a bit today both with the new lens and also with photoshop CS2 which I have also recently purchased after extensive reading on this forum.

here is a first attempt:

the photo was taken a 1/250 F5.6 ISO200 in RAW mode with natural lighting. In photoshop I followed the instructions for the sharpen-o-matic and then cropped and reduced the image size to what is allowable on ephotozine. FYI the flower is about 15mm across.

I look foward to your comments (I hope!)

Excellent pic, background nicely out of focus to highlight the main subject. I like it. I have the same Sigma lens too, I just haven't had the chance to put it through its paces yet.

SharpenOmatic can be downloaded from Matt's web pages as a PhotoShop Action. It saves a lot of time running through each phase of the sequence if you have done it manually, step by step. Of course, it doesn't hurt to run through each step a few times anyway to familiarise yourself with what's going on in the action.

I'm sure Matt'll be along soon to point you to it if you haven't downloaded it already.

Nice shot, the butterfly could be a touch sharper though.

Incidentally, 15mm across is awfully small for a butterfly!
Die my dear doctor, that's the last thing I shall do!

Some excellent images, I especially like Dan's mug...eer!...bug shot.

Here's a couple of my efforts using the FA100 f2.8 Macro and an AF140C Ring Flash (going to miss not having it...but the 12-24 and 16-45 were too tempting).

Full frame.

Max crop to 8X10, bit of over exposure on the flower in this one.
Cheers
Brian.
LBA is good for you, a Lens a day helps you work, rest and play.
