Gloomy

Well we have had 5 days of rain and drizzle here in Yorkshire. So thought I would take out the new P&S compact, Ricoh CX4. Now bought this for it's compactness, reasonable spec's and to be able to slip it into a pocket when traveling. Only used it a couple of times but seems OK there are little quirks to get used to, shutter lag ect. but am fairly pleased with the results. Anyway the rain was quite heavy and I was walking past these shop windows and it made me think of the contrast between the summer and now.

Sent this shot to Calendar, the regional news program and they showed it on the evening weather forecast. It is the second image of mine they have used on the show.

Five days of rain! I'd better stop complaining about the grey and gloom down here, Snappy. Great contrasts in this shot. I love the colours and reflections.

(Nice to be able to use Ricoh stuff now: they do make good compacts.)
Best wishes,

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, also a cost consideration, seemed the best value for money.

That's a wonderful example of juxtaposaition in street photography. Good for you on getting out in the rain and turning the weather into an opportunity.

I like the image for the colour and reflections. Did you consider using portrait format on the middle section or a square format to crop the left hand side?

Has there been an announcement I've missed about using Ricoh on the Forum?

I took this with the primary reason of using it for the local TV's weather forecast. As most TV's are now 16:9 ratio I didn't crop the shot.
Artistically speaking the space on the left hand side is of no use and cropping would move the main focal point of centre, so it would look better. I agree portrait mode would suit it better.

Regarding the Ricoh/Pentax issue, Pentax no longer exists as a separate company now and Ricoh announce a renaming of the company in early October I believe, aren't we now called Pentax/Ricoh Imaging Co.

I only asked in case I had missed something. I don't want to distract from discussion on Gloomy, so I'll just see what happens

There has been no change in policy and we have added a new clause 3g to the Terms of Use specifically mentioning that images should be Pentax-only.

Hope that clarifies things.
Best regards, John

I guess that rules my images out then!
Apart from 2 Pentax bodies, my lenses are:- 3 Sigma, 1 Tamron and 2 Ricoh. I do not own any Pentax lenses.

You can use third-party lenses on Pentax bodies, no problem. Also included are the Samsung DSLRs and lenses that were made by Pentax.

Other makes of compact are of course excluded, as are other marques of DSLR.

Somebody somewhere is going to ask what happens if we put a Pentax lens on a Canon body, but I'll leave that one to common sense!
Best regards, John

Possibly in something of a rush, given the typos... and in fact that isn't what it says.

John, with respect, how can

... possibly be interpreted as 'Pentax only images'?
