My sons band Lovats were headlining at the Hare & Hounds Birmingham last night, so I took the opportunity to try out my new DA 50mm 1.8 with my Pentax k511 on some of the bands.

Really pleased with the DA 50mm 1.8 seemed to autofocus fine even in the dark conditions and seems very sharp, great for the price.

That will be the k-5 mkii rather than the lens, brilliant for gig photography, better than my D600 thats for sure

Lovely shots and mono tones.

were these taken just using the light available on the stage?

Yes davem these were just lit by the stage lights, which were not very strong. Cabstar I thought the Nikon 600 might have been better, but the K5 Mk11 is certainly a vast improvement on my old K7, which I still enjoy using for Landscape and low ISO stuff by the way.

Thank's for the comments Colin.

The k-5 mkii is the king of low light auto focussing. I shot fall out boy at Manchester arena last night Nd my d600 was focus hunting all the way through, I'm pleased with the image quality from it but the sooner Pentax brings out an ff body and lenses the better for me.

Interesting stuff cabstar, they do seem to be dragging their feet on full frame. By the way do you use manual metering on your gig photos, I used AV on these, but was wondering if I might have got more keepers with manual.

If you find that a bit to much then shutter priority is better than av as shutter speed needs to be higher than your focal length, ideally around 1/180 1/200 ish
