Future of Pentax

For those who haven't seen it yet.

There is a column on this week's issue of Amateur Photographer on the future of Pentax. This issue also carries a detailed review of K-1 II. The fact that a leading weekly is speculating on this subject is really worrying

Stories about the demise of Pentax have been circulating for as long as I have been taking photos

'slow to adopt AF'
'slow to adopt digital'
'slow to adopt this' 'slow to adopt that'

Pentax might be a very small player in a field where you have big hitters such as Canon and Nikon, yet at the price point Pentax compete at there is hardly anything better.

read some reports and you'll believe Nikon will go to the wall, yet the D500 and D850 are hugely popular.

Pentax will be around for a long time yet. But if the whole concern goes belly up, our cameras will still work.

It would help if you at least said what the date of the edition was?

Might be a postive article about what they have coming?

For a little company, they have spread themselves quite wide. With models based on sensors from the tiny Q, to APS-C, to FF and MF.
Plenty of scope to consolidate rather than close, so I doubt it's something you'd see close overnight.

I am not sure if it's available on their website.

It mainly talks about what most of us here have already discussed along this line.

However, the way the writer concluded the article is something quite unexpected, at least for me .

Pentax film cameras haven't been made for quite a while now but there's plenty of folk still using them, even some made more than 50 years ago. Also with old lenses, many are still doing grand service.

Rob, I received my copy on Saturday. I thought I would share the information without giving much away as some of you may want to grab a copy yourselves.

I would be interested to see the sales figures comparing the K1 II to the new Nikon D850.. It may be more expensive but there does seem a lot more about already.... But then we have commented on Ricoh's marketing strategies before.. Though on the whole somethings could have been managed differently. But overall I don't see the need to throw the bath out with the water as they say...

Several of these types of magazine are going digital only now. That cuts down on the publication costs, but I expect cuts numbers also.
It's a tricky field, given you can jump on youtube/forums/website for reviews and technique guides etc nowadays.
